    Super Y

Is it standard practice for Super Y Team in MA/RI to recruit players that are currently on Maple rosters in the spring and double roster them on their Club to play in Super Y.

    #2
I believe the "recruiting" guidelines and laws are that of only Maple. This was some of my issue when I coached at CRU. Maple clubs had to abide by tryout dates and recruiting rules, but MPS was at the time, not affiliated with Maple. I believe they still aren't.

So to your question, is it standard practice - not sure if I would go that far. Does it happen - yes. As for playing on both rosters - it definitely happens. But the player can't be on two state cup rosters. That's where the line is drawn. But a player can play for CRU and Renegades at the same time and play in the USYSA national championship series and also the US Club soccer series. But if CRU and Renegades both enter a state cup team in USYSA, then the player can only be rostered once.

If a Club does have teams in Maple. Should that Club be allowed to recruit players for another Maple roster for a Super Y team, for a age group that they do not have playing in Maple.

It's a fine line and to be honest, I'm not up on all the rules as I use to be. I believe if they are recruiting for SuperY instead of Maple, then it's ok. It's ok per the rules, should it be ok - is another story. Sort of like how some SuperY clubs play in a 5 team league with 3 games played to gain entry into the state cup. ???

Isnt that what Blackwatch RI is all about?

Boy we are certainly jumping in with both feet, Andre Cup, MPS and now recruiting. In large part the problem of recruiting does go to the heart of the organizational confusion in this state Suffice it to say that anti-poaching regulations are found most notably in the MAPLE by-laws. The Mass Youth By-laws make no direct mention of recruitment of players although they make clear that a player is obligated to play for the team with which they sign unless they request a transfer. However transfers are to be granted upon request. This means that unless you can place some sort of MAPLE control over the issue (and they are willing to take jurisdiction for the matter) recruitment of players in the non-MAPLE context is simply not a crime. From a practical standpoint, even if there is contact with a player the question is always what represents improper recruitment. How do you stop parents from talking to other parents about how wonderful it would be for Mia, Brandi and Tiffany to play together next spring - and obviously requests to play in non-MAPLE venues, like Super Y or as a guest for a tournament, raise questions. In the end you probably have to wonder about a situation in which adults spend lots of time and effort trying to convince the parents of 13 and 14 year olds to come play for them. Remember that today's recruitee may one day be the player looking for a new place to play because of the wonderful new recruits being brought in to improve a team's fortunes.

              Eleven,
From what I understand the Blackwatch teams(I think there are 3,RI,NY,and one other) are more of an allstar team with players from different clubs.MPS teams and I believe most of the other teams in Super-Y stay together year round.

The main 'club' I believe is based out of New York and franchises the name. The RI team is made up of BW RI, Nova, Fuller Hamlets and Crusaders United. For all intents and purposes it is an All Star team and obviously very strong but at $750 per player charge, many parents begin to second guess its value fairly quickly.

                  Blackwatch Ri.

My Daughter plays on both a top Div. 1 maple team and Blackwatch Ri. alliance. From earlier post yes Div. 1 maple is better soccer than Super Y but I think it is getting closer every year. My daughter see it as having the best of both worlds. Top maple 1 in the Spring and Super Y throughout the summer.Actually she really recieved more out of Blackwatch last year than maple with playing in the National Championship and selected for the National ODP camp. The Suoer Y cost is really not too bad. Between Maple fees and Blackwatch still less than MPS. Travel is a little long but only two long trips one to Canada and another to upsate NY.

Just like everything, everyone has a different opinion or different experience.

Brings up an interesting thing though, can your daughter play only Blackwatch? I wouldnt think the clubs would allow that but...

                      Super Y

The original concept was an alliance between 4 clubs, Scorpions, Nova Cusaders and Hamlets. You did need to play for those clubs to be a part of Blackwatch RI. Since the start the Scorpions have not been that interested and the Nova teams are falling off so there are really only 2 clubs feeding into the system. Beacuse of that it is not manadatory that you are on one of the alliance maple teams anymore even though they would like you to be. Teams currently have mixed players form even other maple clubs and others that might just play Super Y.

I dont think that many. Player Id benefits aside, it seems like a huge cash cow for the clubs involved

I believe only a few on each team but the questions was can it be done and the answer is yes. I really don't know the finance aspects of the Alliance but I believe $$ was the not the reason for it. The main concept was to not have the maple club team players exist for MPS and to give them another way to keep playing at a higher level other than summer teams like Districts, Bay Sate etc. It was my understanding that the maple clubs actually paid into Blackwatch to get it going and I would bet the fees goes for coaching, refs. & fields mostly and not back to the Maple clubs.

If you want a history of the Blackwatch Alliance go to this thread dated February, 2005 in the old Touchline while it is still up: http://board2.maplesoccer.com/viewtopic ... t=alliance
