At the beginning of the year, there are a few teams in this state that set winning a USYSA national championship as one of their goals. Obviously it is a lofty expectation, but it is legitimately attainable. The Stars United 16s and Scorpions U16s are two of those teams. So yes, if they fail to win the title, they have not met an expectation. Same goes for the R1 championship, Premier League play-offs and state cup. But there should be nothing wrong with setting high, but legitimate, expectations for players and teams. That is one of the important ways to get better. We all get better by setting goals, working to achieve them and if we fail, learning from that failure. I think most coaches will tell you that it is impossibe to maintain consistent improvement without some failure, either as a team or individual. Teams like the Stars United and Scorpions have had plenty of success but they do lose games and don't always win evry league or tournament that they enter - no one does. However, so long as they learn from the experience and continue on with their efforts to be the best... who cares?
