My D plays for the top team at one of the clubs with GDA & ECNL designations (but at younger age group). There is a chance she'll have to choose between the two options, if indeed the club retains both licenses. From all we've read and heard, the travel, cost and competition will be similar, yet GDA requires her to give up HS and other sports for the 1 and 10,000 chance of making NT down the road. Decision made right there. If she has to choose based on that criteria , no way she chooses GDA. The only way that changes is if ECNL (or whatever the top alternative league is) falls off the map competitively or the financial/travel burden grows much more than it is.

So serious question here... my D plays for an ECNL club that does not have the GDA badge. She is participating in the US soccer training centers. Would it hurt her chances at the training centers if she doesn't join GDA?

Alright then do tell then. According to all information given and posted, Stars and Breakers both still have GDA and ECNL. You are claiming this is not the case. The rumors are that the Breakers are not retaining the ECNL membership. They will just be a DA club, second teams will play NPL. Scorpions will stay in the ECNL.
