My D has been with Kings for 3 years. She is currently an 06 player. We like the entire team have been offered a spot on the Stars Metro West team and have been assured that we will have the same coach. We have recently heard that the NEP has a rule about coaches switching clubs not being allowed to coach the same age group. Does anyone know any more on this?
We have been happy with the coaching and would like to stay with the same team and coach but this information has us slightly concerned.

According to the recruitment rules on the NEP site, there is a 12-month non-compete rule, but it can be waived by the original club to allow the coach to continue coaching the same gender & age-group at the new club.
So does that mean it is up to Kings or Seacoast? The way SM ended it with Seacoast I am sure they won't be backing down without a fight.
Typically, non-competes are at the discretion of the employer (i.e. Seacoast). If this is a true non-compete, though, NH really doesn't have an enforceable law from my understanding. What's tricky is how the buy-out/integration of Kings and how he won't be starting up, or going to a new club in their backyard (i.e. GPS or the like).
"Dear Seacoast United players, families and friends,
By now many of you are aware that Shawn McDonough has left the club with immediate effect. Understandably with how Shawn has handled his own departure, there are many questions and concerns.
I would like to address some of those and share some incite in to what has happened and also how we will move forward to make this transition as flawless as possible.
On Friday morning, myself and Paul Willis (CEO and President of Seacoast United) received a short one paragraph email from Shawn, explaining he is leaving with immediate effect. We had no knowledge of this, or had any discussions with him prior to this email. Obviously, it came with a shock, as Shawn has been in all of our planning and soccer development meetings for next year. We have since tried to call, email and text Shawn to discuss his departure and have not had the courtesy of a return."
Well, nobody just walks away if everything is rosey. So, I'm sure there is more to the story. But, sure seems like he literally took his ball and went home.

Never recommend burning a bridge.
Honestly, one of the most satisfying things in life is brining a bridge when it deserves to be burned. Playing it safe isn't always the best approach; you'll always be pissed. I have no idea what the disruption here is, but you should definitely burn and occasional bridge- gives things color.
Rumor has it that JD made Shawn sign a 10 year contract with Stars. And has been stated in a prior post will be bringing over former kings girls to form a metro west stars team and 5-6 Ecnl/Da players. Here's the question who thinks he's an actually quality DA level coach? Clearly JD does, but if I was to add up the pieces it was an easy hire for stars IF he could bring a team and some talented players with him. That about covers his salary.
3. NEP clubs are not allowed to acquire teams from another club within the NEP to bring into their own organization. Club mergers do not fall into this category.
4. NEP clubs will adopt a 12 month non-compete rule where a current NEP coach is employed by another NEP club. This means for 12 months the newly appointed coach cannot work in the same age and gender of his/her previous club unless the coach moves residence outside of the current region – or unless there is prior permission from the former club.

This guy continues to do what makes sense for him, regardless of how he has to treat people. The players and families were telling others that this was happening, weeks ago! Not a good guy, at all, he will soon pay the price for treatment he dishes out to others.
He has a habit of running his mouth with his players and families. Some of the things he said to my D and other players was beyond the norm. He is young and has a lot to learn.
90 percent of everything posted on here is absurd. the thread starts with" I'm a kings parent and have been very happy....." Very clever!! thereby making it seem like its not a crazy mother on the warpath or more likely a Seacoast exec posting the email. Why would a parent feel the need to tell you idiots shes happy? lol, However from the replies you ate it up just like all the other stupid posts from idiots with zero inside knowledge. your sons and dots are playing soccer this weekend, go watch a game and try to spend one week away from this site, see if your blood pressure goes down from the lack of stress from all the mendacious posting.
