Don't think the poster as trying to mislead. It obviously is merit money. He did get the percentages wrong, though. He's going to be paying 60% or more instead of 40%.

Hope that $8,000 off and degree from University of Akron was worth it. Mine will graduate from a top academic thanks to very generous merit money. Playing some great soccer too. Maybe he'll hire your kid for a low level entry job one day

          "Great" soccer 🤔🤔 at D3
Just get the degree and skip the " great soccer"

Don't forget you paid thousands of dollars for club soccer for "great soccer at D3. Have you or your child calculate that ROI

And here we go. Most of these families were planning to pay for great educations anyway and they are thrilled about also getting to play very competitive D3 soccer.

There are a good amount of D3 programs better than D1 programs. Don't believe me ask The UConn head coach. 😬😬😬

My apologies for bringing the "D1 is the only worthwhile soccer" troll onto a thread dedicated to the proud achievements of this year's senior boys.

To be clear about earlier post, my kid's 88k is indeed "merit" money. However, as anyone who is aware knows, this is very often given in lieu of sports scholarship money, but might be even better because it is guaranteed and cannot be taken away in the many ways that scholarships can.

Also I did not give full $ details, but with the cost of the midwestern U at 40k and a few extra bucks from other sources, the cost to our family is really about 40% of the full price for a quality institution with a particular strength in kid's desired area of study. We feel very lucky for this!

And, the ROI after club costs is quite good as we were late to that after living abroad for a bit and then spending most of the local time with a cheaper "mom and pop" club. All in, less than 13k to get 88k, and that is ONLY if one does not see any ROI at all in the fun, friendships and life lessons (like dealing with adversity) that the whole family benefitted from over a number of years.

And in terms of "great" soccer, I would not call any level of American college soccer "great." I feel same about the MLS and MNT. If you saw Brazil play the MNT at Foxboro a couple of years ago then you did get to see one team that played great soccer.

So please stop trying to boost your low self image by insulting the achievements of children and trying to convince yourself you are in some way superior because your kid earned a D! scholarship. I applaud your child's achievement and hope that you can do the same for others.

There is more than 100 private high schools in MA. Assuming that 2+ players on each team are seniors, there truly are hundreds of soccer-playing seniors in MA.

I can't take you seriously when you say something like this. Unless the only "great" soccer you see is played by a handful of professional clubs and national teams. And if that's the definition of great you are using in the context of this conversation then you've just constructed a straw man.

Boy, if you believe all these posts on TS, sounds like the whole country is being overrun with straw men. Watch out!
