Many freshmen will struggle to get PT, especially up front.. But by the end of the season, if you're not getting some decent it isn't a good sign

In my experience the first 6 or so games are out of conference with a few soft opponents. That is when coaches will try some new players out. When conference games start they have their lineups set so they are less likely to experiment. Next shot is spring season.

Why "especially upfront"? I think the opposite --Center Back and even outside back would be tougher than upfront were you can throw a kid in for 5 or 10 mins--

Because his kid is an attacking player and has gotten no pt. Does anyone honestly think there's another explanation based on soccer and coaching? The other poster was right. As a general rule, and there are always exceptions, some freshmen get some time in out of league games. Occasionally an in league game, but mostly when coaches just need fresh legs. But kids who use whatever time they get on a field well benefit. They just have to stick it out.

Fir those who are new, I will list here Boys who started in 50% or more of their team's games so far. I will do this again at season's end. Note: all 31 of the D1's listed are rostered, and 31 is one of the lowest numbers in 5 years or so.

            Player/School/Games/GP/GS/G/A

            Davis Smith/UMass/7/7/7/1/2
            Adama Kaba/Northeastern/6/6/5/1/0
            Dan Munch/Northeastern/6/5/4/0/1*

That is it, about 10% are starting a Lot, much lower in general but the same as last season, a sad trend. I would point out that 11 of this class went out of the New England region, many to National powers. None have played a minute so far. I hope that perhaps some are red shirting.

                  2017 D1 Boys Starting a Lot

The first season is finishing up. Let's see how the Freshman did:

                  Player/School/G/GP/GS/G/A

                  Davis Smith/UMass/17/17/17/9/5
                  Daniel Munch/Northeastern/18/17/12/2/1
                  Adam Kaba/Northeastern/18/16/12/1/0

Still holding at 10%. Some great performances here, with all conference recognition.

                    Player/School/G/GP/GS/G/A

                    Felipe Cypriano/Bryant/14/14/6/0/0
                    Matthew Ranieri/Dartmouth/14/13/3/1/0
                    Mike Rita/UMass/17/15/2/2/2
                    Anthony Barreira/Bryant/ 14/11/6/1/0

                    Eli Cronin/UMass/17/12/4/0/0
                    Rory Conway/Harvard/14/8/4/0/0

So about 1/3 are playing a lot. Note that all these kids on both lists play for New England teams.

                      Other 2017 D1 Boys

                      Of the rest:

                      10 saw the field

                      10 DNP

A lot of very good players here, some National caliber.

Data says stay in the region and you will see more playing time.

Over the 8 seasons I have done this, only a handful of MA kids have gone out and played for National powers outside of New England and actually played a lot. Less than 1/season. This class has 8. The most games played was 2. I hope they are being redshirted. A similar group was last year so I was curious to see if they played at all year 2. Stay tuned.

                            2017 D1 Boys Starting a Lot

Let’s see how the sophomores are doing.

                            Player/Team/Games/GP/GS/G/A

                            Davis Smith/UMass/8/8/8/3/2
                            Justin Rennicks/Indiana/6/6/6/2/0
                            Nicholas Woodruff/Mich St/7/7/7/1/1
                            Owen Miller/UML/7/7/7/0/0
                            Trey Miller/UMass/8/7/7/-/-
                            Edi Mujan/HC/5/4/3/0/0
                            Adam Kaba/Northeastern/5/5/5/0/2
                            Jonathan Wolf/UNH/7/7/5/0/1

This number has jumped from 3 to 8 this season.
                            Reasons that I know of:
                            1) Return from injury
                            2) Transfer from a National to a Local team
                            3) Redshirt

That number is more like most classes and closer to the magic 10 player number I use. Congrats to all.

                                Player/Team/Games/GP/GS/G/A

                                Nathan Plano/Brown/4/3/0/9/0
                                Felipe Cypriano/Bryant/5/5/2/0/1

                                Simon Fisher/PC/7/6/0/0/0

8 more makes 17 of 31 kids playing much. I like that there only 31 D1’s in this class. The past 5 seasons it has typically been 40-50. Still 14 more to talk about next. Congrats to these players.
