Blackwatch is a NY based club that branched to RI. They have access to Super Y in both RI an NY so MPS couldnt block them.. I think?

MPS does not participate in Maple because they claim relegation hampers player development. MPS blocks MA clubs from particpating in Super Y league, which definitely hurts player development, and drives up fees and travel costs for parents.

Explain Blackwatch then.

Blackwatch is not a Massachusetts club.

Blackwatch, RI was formed as a boys club in Rhode Island. They are sister club to Blackwatch, NY, because the head guy at the RI affiliate has ties there.

Blackwatch got the nod to provide the Super Y team from Rhode Island.

As Massachusetts clubs were not allowed to participate in Super Y, they had players that were taking advantage of MPS dual rostering. When MPS eliminated dual rostering, a lot of the players left the MAPLE clubs.

Among these were Crusaders and Fuller Hamlets.

At the same time, Blackwatch was thinking about having girls teams.

I'm not exactly sure how the conversations came about, but I know that Nova had hired the Blackwatch guy to coach teams and be a clinician. He saw there was lots of talent in Massachusetts, and somehow Nova, Crusaders, and Fuller Hamlets created this 'Alliance.' It gave Mass players an avenue to play in the summer, play Super Y, and still remain with their clubs.

Scorpions ended up being involved at first, but there was never very much interest from players or coaches, so after a while there was not very much support there either.

I know that Crusaders still contribute, not as sure about Fuller Hamlets.

MPS is blocking US Club ODP opportunities for MA kids, by preventing other MA clubs from entering the super y league.

Way back when Super Y first started I remember talking with Matt Weibe by email and phone and he told me we (Scorpions) couldnt play in the league. I thought that was weird and started to think about finding a way because it sounded worth trying at the time.

Then I realized that if access was totally blocked for clubs in the area as it seemed to be then we would be doing a lot of travelling and it didnt seem to be as attractive so we dropped it.

Nothing against MPS itself but Super Y in New England hasnt developed into the competitive level that would make the travel worthwhile to us so the blocked access, while still weird to me, isnt an issue any longer.

It seems like the various Region 1 leagues made Super Y less relevant/important as they provided similar (better) non local competition? Some say that Super Y's existence pushed Region 1 toward more Regional Leagues to compete with Super Y, the non USYSA league?

Thanks CM. CU and FH still participate. I think more FH players play than CU from what i've heard.

The Hamlets have high numbers in all age groups. A while back a male super y player U 18 I think stated he got more exposure out of Super Y then he ever did from Maple. My daughter played in the National championship last year and National Odp camp which was a great experience. I agree that Super Y seems to provide more for the resume when they get older if that is what you are looking for.

So is MPS blocking or is US Club (Super Y) blocking?

It is my understanding that MPS has near exclusivity for EMass.

I think Matt Weibe explained to me that Super Y was OK with that because they wanted to have the players form together on a 'superclub'. That seemed like a mistake to me but thats what he said.

MPS is blocking. Both Super Y and US club have incentive to expand the league.

I guess you can say it's a commodity and open to whomever wants to purchase the rights to it.

I guess you could. To me it seemed like adults and business getting in the way of a soccer opportunity. I guess I personally see all of this as a game and not a business still.
