We have been with GPS for over 4 years and could not be happier. Competitive team, NPL league, strong tournaments, 2 great coaches, National level opportunities. Sorry to all you jackwads that can't handle the clubs success.
You were going so well until the 'Jackwad' comment.
would you feel the same way if your child was not on an NPL team? I just looked at the boys U14 divisions from last year and there are 18 teams that start with GPS. While not all are Mass teams, (NH and Maine) the great majority are. I wonder if you would even be coming on to this site to support them.
Any team can travel around the country to face teams from outside our region. All that means is that they can find tournaments that will accept them and the parents are willing to spend the money on the travel.
I thought the poster was talking about playing and beating the best teams in the country. You know, the kind with trophies at stake, dozens of college coaches lining the sidelines, etc. My bad.
Yup, your bad. Im not that poster (NEFC mom), but to be fair, that team won NPL both fall and spring (bettering NEFC in standings). Then went 3-0 in group play at NPL Nationals and lost semis 1-0 to a team that won finals 9-0. I'd say they earned it and performed quite well ima tourney, you know, with trophies at stake..
Our NEFC girls won state cup, and. Went to National Cup. Just missed moving on from group play. I'm proud of our girls, and similarly give a nod to those GPS girls.
Finally,if you think Surf Cup is a lollipop tournament, well, now we know where to put your opinion

Furthermore, if their national exposure was so great, why do the kids run for the DAP and ECNL teams at around U15 and older??

My son played five years first for MPS then GPS. His team played the highest level first with region 1 then the NPL system that replaced it. 75% of those five years the coaching was excellent. College coaches did line up on the sidelines especially at Potomac and Disney. From U17 for local NPL games and tournaments there were college coaches at games as well. If you play at the top level of any of the big clubs I would think the experience is similar if you are in the top 11--13 players on the team.

There is no way the top 11-13 players at GPS are playing in college.

U15? Now they run from GPS to DAP at U13 on the boys side. If you're still at GPS at U13 you've been left behind by the impact players. The 3 GPS players on the 03 Revs team couldn't make the move fast enough for the inaugural U13 DAP season.

I think one needs to differentiate boys vs. girls where GPS is concerned. I don't know about the boys side, where they might be great and developing lots of great, successful players and teams.
On the girls side, it's a joke. It's a very successful business, to be sure, but in terms of developing top players or teams they're maybe the 5th or 6th best club in the area.
[QUOTE=Unregistered;1883261]Strange analogy. I get the size comparison, but Wal-Mart known for being extremely cheap, yet we here on this board endlessly how they cost so much....[/QUOTE
Our expierence on a Select (B) team was not great. Moved clubs for this year and my child made the A team. Only time will tell if the expierence is better.
Most people who are thrilled with GPS have NPL or Elite team players/experience. GPS desperately wants to hold on to its good players so they are treated a lot better.
Again yymv and not every region is the same.
And they are pricey. About $3,800. or so for an Elite team before uniforms. We're paying $2,000. at our new club. Similar training hours, less tournaments.
