Do other non-ISL schools not have kids who repeat? I always thought that every prep school had a fair amount of repeats. Also, keep in mind that PG's are generally at high school exclusively for sports, whereas some kid at an ISL school might just happen to play soccer even though he repeated his freshman year.

Maybe some kids go to prep school "exclusively" for sports (and some schools lean heavier to the sports side of things than the academic side), but lots of PG athletes (most?) go to prep school to develop study habits (and maturity) and get their grades/test scores up while also being able to keep active with their sport at a relatively high level.

instead of doing PG why not just repeat a year (assuming the school has tons of course offerings and you're already in prep school or plan to join as a sophomore or junior)

The primary difference between the ISL schools and the non-ISL schools in NEPSAC is not the existence of PGs. As others have pointed out, over time, the increase in repeat years has narrowed the significance of that difference (although there probably is some predictive difference between having a 15 year old with potential repeat a year and having an 18 year old already developed athlete repeat a year). Far more important are the recruiting and scholarship rules that apply in the ISL. While there plainly are some ways to work within those rules to facilitate recruitment, and some schools may be more aggressive than others in that regard, those rules are taken seriously and they are far more difficult and limiting than the rules applicable to non-ISL schools. Hence, St Paul's exit from the league. It seems likely that those rules may have a lot more to do with the likelihood of success in the NEPSAC playoffs than the impact of some PGs.

That said, ISL schools compete reasonably well in the NEPSAC playoffs each year, especially in class B. The playoff system and seeding look generally fair each year, and when there is a really good ISL team, they usually can make it to the finals and have a shot at winning.

And many schools get players around the "PG" stigma by having them repeat the grade they just completed before transferring in. The 8th grade repeat is also very common for schools like MA where their are junior high school grades available.

Brooks has it locked up. Ma had to win this game. Even a tie wouldn't have been enough. Nobles and bh won't overtake Brooks

Ma was 12-0-3 2 years ago in isl and 15-0 last year. So over 2 years since last isl loss. Only losses have been to Berkshire until today

I agree that Brooks is looking good. However, they have not clinched the title. They could lose to Nobles and Milton and that would allow Nobles to slip into first if they beat Milton.

Yes. Nobles is the only team left that has a realistic shot at catching brooks. Playoff spots look pretty clear too: BH and Milton in class A and brooks and nobles in class B. Looks like those four are well ahead if the pack.

And in 2013, they only lost two ISL games, which I believe were their first two games of that season. So, if I'm right, today's loss ended an undefeated streak of 13 + 15 + 15 + 8 = 51 ISL games dating back to September 2013.
