District Selects is another money maker for MYSA, that's the bottom line.

You get basically nothing except another 4 weeks of playing and then you cant really consider it playing. Games are horrible, level is maybe town or slightly better.

If your kid is D2 and Maple D, maybe even some D1 players, your kid will feel like a star.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but my child has had a great experience playing districts the last 4 years, we have too. This is a fun league. The talent and skill level differs widely, but you will find some VERY good players who just LOVE to play soccer, so this is a great avenue for them. Stress free environment, competitive games, chance to play different positions, work on weak areas of their game, develop firendships, adjustment to new teammates.... As far as $ go, you find me a reffed league that will provide 8 games plus a tournament, including uniform and coaching for $150/player. As for the comment about having your D1 or D2 feel like a star, maybe that's just what they need to boost their confidence, and take them to the next level. Not everyone's "cup of tea", but if you're just hanging out this summer, and saving some dough on camps and vacation, I think you and your kid will enjoy the experience.

"District selects" and "taking you to the next level" dont belong in the same sentence.

Says a parent who has never played the game before in their life. Not in itself, but I guess it depends on what your kid can work on that would benefit them. It's the enjoyment, touches, skill work, exposing weaknesses to become more proficient.. a kid can develop playing in these "fun" leagues. Being a former player I really get sick of hearing how your kids will somehow "lower" themselves, or develop "bad habits" when you absolutely have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, the pace is slower, the skills are lacking, in fact it doesn't resemble a club game by any stretch. So are pick-up games, HS leagues, Bay State games.. anything elso out there except at the club level. Enjoy it for what it is, and the right kid can certainly improve their game, their confidence, and hopefully you parents can relax and have a Sunday picnic on the sideline.

If I am playing on an Academy Team already, is this a waste of time and travel

Agree with all of the above. Lat year was our 1st year, my child wanted to play over the summer in advance of the HS season. It is playing pick-up in a structured way. The only down side was playing on turf in the heat.

Look is District Select a top level program with college coaches and high level training which will put little Landon on the road to stardom in Europe? Not likely.

It's some decent players competing at a nice facility in what amounts to a pickup game type atmosphere.

                    It's FUN!!!

I know a lot of you have forgotten but it's called PLAYING soccer, not WORKING soccer.

Give the "development" thing a rest, try enjoying the game and driving home afterward in a good mood whether your child won or lost, it's a nice way to gain a little perspective.

I believe there is contact information on the tryout page...Drop the coach a note. What kind of response you get will probably answer any other questions you may have ......
