Same experience for my kid. Stayed too long in a comfortable situation where we had no complaints. Once my kid switched teams, it became obvious that we had stayed too long as the new situation was liberating and a growth experience in many ways. I suspect the forced shake-up will be a blessing in disguise for many.

      Will Fred miss her?

I think the parents are the ones projecting the "getting screwed" issue. If the kids wants the challenge, they will take it and be fine. Everything in life is not going to be easy.

You didn't need the birth year issue to make a change. Every year should be self reflection and evaluate whether your goals have been met. If not, make a change regardless of silly soccer rules.

You are correct and we would have made a change this year regardless of the birth year changes. This just makes the transition to a new team that much easier as most teams will be completely new.
