And next up for the U.S. after Hawaii? The Alamodome in San Antonio, an infamous indoor turf on which Australia’s Kyah Simon tore her ACL in October 2013 while playing the U.S. The Alamodome turf is also where Morgan initially injured her ankle, an ailment which developed into a stress reaction and kept her out almost seven months, into June 2014.

The WNT's problems with turf, especially indoor turf, are writ large at the youth soccer level, but nobody cares.

Ya, those prima donnas are just making a big "to do" over nothing. Just because the men won't play on it doesn't mean the women shouldn't. I mean, like men have good reason. Blowing out a knee is going to cost them big money. For women? Not so much. Hell, they can just go get married and start having babies. Who cares, right?

Well, why don't they bitch and boycott their pro games (and paycheck) that they play on turf?!?!?
What a load of crap this story is. Where are all the stories of youth in this country or MLS players having a problem with turf. Turf is a luxury relative to most grass fields. The great majority of the practices and games ( as well as the MLS and most US men players) these women have take place on artificial turf. But they choose to make a stand on game day, in Hawaii? Please. What a bunch of phonies. Get back to me when they refuse to play (and get their paycheck) in one of their pro games.

Feel for her, but overrated for me. No big loss. Time for some youngster to show what they made of.

If it were Carli Lloyd then that would be a travesty. But Rapinoe is meh.

We're comparing the best international female players to the best international male players not youth level, not MLS level. There is a double standard. It started at the World Cup and contines with US Soccer.

There's a very simple solution that anyone except a pure hypocrite would favor. The women want equal treatment. Therefore they should be allowed to try out for the men's team and anyone that makes it now plays on grass rather than turf. What could possibly be more fair than that?

Unbiased person with no connection to anyone and love Lloyd and Pinoe but midfielders never get any recognition or credit unless they score the goals. Yes Carli was a major force in World Cup and she scored great goals when she needed to, but no one ever gives credit to the middies for all their work. Pinoe was a workhorse and an engine in the midfield. Kids who play there never get the fame ; always the goal scorers.

There is one thing that would be fairer in this great world of political correctness. Men should be allowed to try out for the women's team. We should be striving for perfect, gender equality and I'm certain that Alex Morgan will get wind of this idea and boycott future games until the day when she looks to her wing and see's Clint Dempsey standing there.

Sounds as if you're describing defenders...
