Beginning two weeks after the fall season, my kid's D3 team played almost daily unsupervised futsal. They were permitted to have a certain number of sessions with the school's strength and conditioning specialist. The "spring season" consists of approximately 15 training sessions with the coaching staff, an alumni game, and a game with a nearby D1 team.

I think the rule is up to 20 hours of organized and coach led team training and no more than 180 minutes of competitive play. Some teams like to play two matches against other teams, and some prefer to play a one day festival (up to 4 or 5 matches; between 35 - 40 minutes in length) against other D3 teams. Teams are allowed unlimited strength training, futsal, or other activities as long as no coach or member of the athletic department are organizing or observing the sessions.
