    Bullying Penalties MIAA Rules

What is the penalty for athletes who are found to be bullying other players according to the MIAA rules? Have there been cases filed and have suspensions been implemented? I don't want the names of specific towns, schools or players but just confirmation that there is a rule and a subsequent penalty to the offending athlete. Are there different rules for public schools vs. private schools?

I have checked the MIAA handbook but I couldn't find the correct information.

Why wouldn't you simply request a meeting with your AD and/or school administration? With all due respect, and having been involved in something in this area, I'd be far more interested in solving the problem than learning about the details of possible punishment before actually solving the problem.

Honestly I don't know but if I had to haazzard a guess it's up to 1) game officials to handle during a game or 2) the school/coach to deal with according to their own codes of conduct

When my kid signed up to play he had to sign off on taunting rule and hazing rule. Check your paperwork or online registration.

As the OP, I would be more interested in solving the problem as well but after more than a few meetings with the AD the issue is not resolved. Knowing the consequences of what will happen to the offender will help decide if the next step needs to be taken. If there are no serious consequences, why even bother bringing it to the next level?

Then it should go up to the principal. Ultimately he/she is responsible for the behavior of students and the AD reports to them.

Unless the bully is an opponent? Then I don't know what you do there

Bully is on the team. I think the principal will be the next step as I sometimes forget the AD has a boss. I always think the the AD is out on an island and has final say.

The absolutely the principal is the next step. No one wants to go over people's heads but if the AD isn't doing anything that's the way to go. I'm assuming you've spoken with the coach? Just be prepared that a lot of schools talk about bullying but in reality they tend to do very little. Going through MIAA will get you nowhere. It's really a school specific issue to be dealt with your own school officials.

If you have internet access and a television, it's fairly obvious that there's no shortage of serious consequences. To the point that the scales of due process have probably tipped the other way at this point.

Without judging the situation, just knowing my kid's coach, IF there's a hint of a problem on a team, never mind serious, and the coach doesn't take it seriously well before the AD is ever involved, then they have serious balls or they're dumb as ****. Forget about the consequences to the bully, the coach will be feeling it the most.

Agreed. Talk to coach first, then AD, then Principal. If coach has a clue they'll take care of it right away. No coach wants to be talked to by AD or let alone principal. I'd even confront the offending kids parents if you get no where with coach. Stay clear of MIAA, they're so stupid they'd punish the whole team (non offenders), even your kid.

Don't forget about the school committee and the Superintendent. The Principal has a boss as does the Superintendent.
