    Tryouts how to select team?

Any advice on how to decide on a team if selected for more than one? Team record? Coach credentials? What is most important?

Personally, I'd go with coach first - ability, style, personality. Then I'd go with players/team. For development, I'd want my kid to be in the middle of the pack and not at the top of the team.

Depending on age and where your kid plans to take his soccer, I wouldn't really worry about team record.

I agree - especially if it's a younger player development is much more important. You have to build a solid foundation to continue later on. Besides a team might be very good but plays in a very challenging league so team records won't tell you much (flip that and a winning record may tell you they're in an easy league). So beyond coaching look at who they play against, what tournaments the go to. Even if the coaching is excellent I wouldn't recommend picking a team if your player is going to be #12-18. coaching is one thing, playing time another. Finally there's the bigger intangibles - did your player like the other kids on the team, do the parents seem uptight or easy to hang out with? You'll be spending a lot of time togehter

what age group are we talking about?

Where did your child feel most comfortable?

Which team practices closer to your home?

How much turnover was there from last years team?

Wrong. Unless you don't care about development

                    Coach's accent is most important.

So you mean all this talk of team accomplishment on TS is doing little more for anyone besides contributing to global warming?

Unfortunately, nobody follows this sound advice. Coaches who have top flight teams are universally recognized as being "better" even though nothing may be farther from the truth.
A savvy poster on a different thread pointed out the coaches/owners/faces of the club many times get to choose the better athletes or teams and leave the hard work to the guys/gals running the lower level squads who are many times the superior coach.
This is Mass youth soccer-nothing is more important than results. Evidenced by the endless prattle and empty boasts of virtually every idiot on this site.

Age has a lot to do with the correct answer here. Sounds like a young one getting ready for his or her first year. But to be nice about this any club will do. The parents have to be educated first on who may be a good coach or not or for that matter a good club also. So get your feet wet go to the closest club and start there. The education will come very fast about youth soccer.
