was never adequate to begin with, so not destroying anything. poorly worded survey.

Is US pay-to play system capable of creating players and a US team to compete at world class level?

Given the size of the US, it should be producing mega athletes the likes of Brazil, but certainly any of the European countries. Academies in Europe promote the best, not the richest. US promotes only the ones who can afford to travel significantly paying their own and their adoring family's way while studying to be a lawyer, dr or indian chief oh btw, and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and pay and .....

Don't need to take the survey to provide quick answer.. On the women's side, apparently YES. On the men's side, evidence seems to indicate NOT YET.

Perhaps the follow up question is whether US could be more competitive on both fronts with a different financial model? Are there more talented players out there, who want to play at the highest level, but who cannot afford $$ needed to advance through the process to reach National Teams at the right age.

I have primarily watched the soccer world from a women's side having a daughter of HS age still playing. I can certainly say that the $$ are significant. Through friends I have heard of the men's side and, in particular, the MSL Academy program which appears to be far more financially friendly for those with talent (and perhaps a bit of luck?) to be selected.

MLS id is for select few after U14 - sometimes free but with much travel.

Club soccer tournaments until age 14 at a high level club could amount to $10-12K/year. This in addition to keeping up with studies (e.g. private tutoring, special math, etc) means a high level of income to sustain a player at that level. Not accessible to families making less than $200K/yr. Highly unlikely the best of the players are in that genetic pool to begin with.

                Just sayin

An interesting idea and a conversation worth having, but hastily thought through and poorly written.
