    Correction, most crappy Maple clubs play on grass fields, NEP clubs don't have that problem

      Speaks to where things are at. MAPLE teams still play on grass and have to wait for the spring thaw while NEP teams play on turf which were all plowed for early season tournaments and now completely playable so they are able to start their season.

          Another issue that really isn't a NEP versus Maple thing. It's a result of the few large clubs, who happen to play in the NEP, who have the resources to control the available turf locally.

                You just donated money to your spring tournament for matches not fully played.
                Who's the sucker?

                  Not sure about this, but isn't that part of the criteria to get into the NEP, that you have to own, or have access to turf fields? This may be a small part of the reason clubs choose to join the NEP in the first place, because they know the other participants will be ready to start the season no matter how bad the winter happens to be. I have one kid in playing town soccer and his first game was just rescheduled to May 2nd due to field conditions (season ends June 13th!). Maybe NEP has the advantage of a longer spring season in years like this. But, I think almost all soccer players would agree that playing on a quality grass field is better, though how many Maple teams actually have quality grass fields is debatable, I'm sure.

                    I hear that most players love turf, probably 50/50. My daughter's first game in NEP and I thought the refs were great also. Nothing against High school refs, but your getting seasoned refs and linesmen that keep everyone in check.

                      Wow, are you in for a rude awakening.
                      Seasoned refs: only because almost every game in the state was postponed.
                      Most=50%? Must be new math.
                      Sounds like a politicians idea of a mandate.

                        Turf is much harder on a kids body. The US womens national team prefers a natural surface

                          Just about everyone prefers a natural surface. Unfortunately, many of the natural surfaces around these parts will not be playable until late April, given that a lot of them still have snow cover, with standing water underneath.

                              Guess what, we live in New England!! Grass fields are most likely not going to be ready until early/mid April. In addition, what colleges even use grass fields anymore? The kids better get used to playing on turf because 100% of colleges have turf and 75% of high schools use turf at this point. Personally, I'd prefer winters to be 80 and sunny, but WE LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND!!!
