Maybe he realized that she is not an addition.

Word among the players is that Cassie decided that while she likes soccer, she did not love it enough to make it her life in college (which really is what it would be). More power to her for realizing this before she entered and was miserable. Playing soccer in college is not for everyone; it's a job at best and can interfere with academics. Best of luck to her -whereever she ends up.

Is this another Elena Delle Donne?

you ask that as if it is a bad thing. I don't know anything about this girl other than the name is familiar since I follow girls soccer in Mass, but I say hurray to her if that is indeed her decision. And hurray to her parents for allowing her to grow up to be an individual with a mind of her own who apparently doesn't feel she owes them anything "in return for their investment" -- I think this is a great story. She enjoyed soccer, but is a young lady who plays/played soccer, instead of being defined as a "soccer player." This really is refreshing to see this happening in this ridiculous environment where you have people writing on this board in all seriousness that what is the point of playing high level club soccer and traveling with teammates to tournaments if not for the brass scholarship at the end of the rainbow? This news, if true, seriously makes my day.

P.S. and as for Elena, u conn did just fine without her, and I just read in SI that she is at Delaware playing volleyball and having a blast. Another great story, a girl just being happy. Imagine that.

Are you refering to Della Donne? Her situation was a bad thing. Not that she made a decision to quit UConn, but her decision to quit basketball because the adults in her life pushed her too hard and too early. Don't know if this applies to Wagner or not, but for years her name has been bandied about these boards as one of the stars of Massachusetts (pun intended). You've got to wonder if there are any parallels with Della Donne and how many others like her are out there.

I don't know Ms. Wagner but give her a lot of credit if she indeed made the decision to forego soccer in favor of concentrating on her academics. The burnout/injury rate in D1 sports is remarkably high with only about 1/3 of recruited freshmen still on the team by their senior year. Maybe she read one of the studies that show repeated concussions and heading the ball makes your brain look like Swiss cheese by the time you're an adult and that she might need to use her brain to make a living?

So what you are saying is that a whole lot of people miss the point of playing sports in school, college or high school. It's suppose to be an extracurricular activity, not a job.

It is not an extracurricular activity for all players although it should be for most. For some players it is their avocation. Those are the players that tend to aim for the top level Div. 1 programs and finish four seasons (barring injury). There is no right or wrong here - just what is right for the player.

CW name in soccer was created by her father and other politicians. Kerr gave her big push to get Len to recruit her to Uconn, and smart enough this young lady knows that she doesn't have the luggage for Uconn: Self-fulfillment prophecy.

What are you talking about. I've seen her in hs for four years and she is awesome. More power to her for making the decision she did. Just leave the kid alone.

She's been left alone. But one is entitled to her/his opinion. Yes she is an above average high school player. With all respect I've seen her too in club soccer for more than 5 years. She was never a stand out. Very average.
