I think it is reasonably common with more competitive D3s. Google "college soccer reserve team" and a bunch of schools pop up.

I graduated college in 1980's. All the colleges in the GBL and NE had JV teams. The JV teams were dropped in the late 1990s

30 years ago at the D3 level. Not like we are talking about real sports programs in the modern day.

You could be the Sr Captain and if a Freshman is better, then the Frosh plays and you sit. Above poster is correct. No loyalty. No promises. Tough business---even at D3.

Same with Bowdoin, Wesleyan and Wheaton to name a few more. It's not that uncommon and good that a lot more than just 16 or so players get the fun of some college game time

Springfield College has a JV team (at least it did 2 years ago when my daughter looked there), I assume other teams in the NEWMAC do as well. I remember going to watch a varsity game at Springfield and the JV team played on an adjoining field at the same time as the varsity. I also see the Springfield JV listed on the schedule of CCRI (Community Coll. of R.I.)

                    Wow.....a d-bag

Actually, we played in the GBL (greater boston league) and played against harvard, BU, BC. I don't recall suing against northeastern.

Wow, what an old fart. Does any of this exist today? Bet they used to have buggy races in your day as well. Not terribly relevant to current state of college athletics though.

Just reflecting on a time when retention rates were above 85% and that the presence of JV squads for freshman and sophomores helped it out

The 27 listed includes their red shirts.
