I thought that the merger with Bayern will lower the GPS price by 40-50%.

Is it that time of year to ask this question???
The poster is probably off, but there are so many variables that are never included such as what is included, what added costs are throughout the year, and the cost of travel and lodging. Only one club is for free.....REVS DAP. After that there are scholarships that are doled out. The rest will pay thousands each year.

If you kid is in the top 10 of his/her team then great.

A bottom line (not the only one) is that if you are concerned about the money and can't get a scholarship then you should seriously think what the long-term benefit of club sports is.

We go thru this every year about this time. Once the high school playoffs end and before the thanksgiving tournaments there isn't much to talk about but things like club fees.

The base club fees are all pretty relative between all of the major clubs. Generally about $1,500 to 2,500. The range is greatly effected by what is included (ie uniforms, coach's travel etc) as well as how often and where a club trains (inside vs outside). Some clubs like GPS layer in a lot of ancillary things like camps/clinics on top of that base fee that on the surface make them appear way more expensive than other clubs but the reality is most of those types of costs are optional.

Beyond the base club fee, the two biggest costs in club soccer are the travel costs and "private" trainers. There are a ton of variable involved here that wildly impact what it "costs" to play for an individual club and then individual teams within that club. Of the two, private training is probably the most hit or miss. Some clubs in essence hold you hostage and almost force players to pay coaches in the club additional sums for individual attention in order to get out on the field during games. Other clubs discourage their coaches from taking money for private training because of the inevitable conflict of interest. That sort of thing is not advertised but it still can have a dramatic impact on the wallet so you need to ask around carefully to get the "real" scoop.

The other big additional cost is the amount of travel and that is not something that is universal across all teams and all age groups. The key things to know is how much is mandated by league affiliation, how far those trips are, how frequently the team takes them and at what age they start. Generally speaking most of the clubs have at least one team in an age group that will travel fairly extensively but even amongst those the end cost will be wildly variable. You need to really check this out and understand the differences before you make any decisions about club costs.

Too few parents take this view seriously enough.

I pay $1850 for the Breakers ECNL. Not sure where you got your numbers but it is half what you posted.

That includes equipment, travel. lodging, camps, clinics??
                    three practices per week?
                    summer sessions.

My point here is that a number is meaningless if without knowing what is in the box that you bought.

Approx $2,300. GPS U11. (Upper age brackets = more money bc it includes ON summer camp.

                      Fall/Spring - 2 weekly practices and 1 game NEP

                      3 Tourns
                      Uniforms

Absurd expense for most families even if the kids have talent. With more than one soccer player in the family even more absurd. To each his own but youth sports are so exclusionary by income. Don't be thinking you are all that when much of the competition is out from the get go with too small a bank account.

This is all a $ maker and most top teams can cost over 5k per year if you add up all the expenses of travel. Four years of club soccer can easily cost the same as a years tuition of college. Only a very select few will actually find club soccer as an investment.
Be realistic & smart about what it going on.

How much is that little Florida trip going to cost during peak season and don't tell me what great fares you got because there's no such thing around the holidays.

Worth highlighting. I'll take it to a direct question - if you accept that the vast majority of players in club soccer will see their playing days on a competitive team end prior to graduating from high school, is club soccer worth the investment of time and money?
