The kids on those teams don't want to go to D3 schools. Most are all still harboring tiny little dreams of going pro in the back of their heads. Sure, an education would be nice, but professional soccer would be better. They are kids. The ones who haven't committed yet are still hustling trying to find their way onto a D1 roster.

The pressure must be very very high.
There are, but there is no desire to put it out here and open themselves up to criticism. If you look at the Seacoast DAP pages there are some players going to Tufts.

It is a con game the kids play with the DAP club. They always intended to go to the best academic school they could get into but they know the club doesn't want to hear it. So they keep it down low. When the kid gets into Bowdoin and declines UMass the club goes ballistic but the family has just won the game. If you were involved at this level you would understand this dynamic.

lol we learned to just keep our mouths shut when we went through the process. Sure my son received great training and was really challenged in DAP. He has no regrets about doing it and it opened up far more soccer doors than if he hadn't. But he was the one getting himself into college, not the club. It was his decision, not theirs. And holy sh** the way the parents would gossip on the side-lines about so-and-so going to this school or that. Pit of vipers.

My son played for the Revs and they definitely try to influence, but I also know that the kids have a competition within themselves. And regardless of academics the kids that go to D1 can not understand why the others go D3. The D3 kids explain it and the D1 kids stare at them incredulous!

Discussing where kids are going to school isn't necessarily gossip.

When they judge - which is what most do - it's gossip. "Can you believe he's going THERE?!" When they say things like "great school" "great soccer" "good fit for him" then it's a discussion.

lol the D1 players don't get it because most haven't learned the life lessons that 1) they won't play professionally and 2)what type of education you get and what you do with that education will matter far more down the road than what level soccer you played.

Wow, there's a thought that hasn't been reiterated ad nauseum...

oh well - whatever who says to who, D1 or D3, what the kids discover when they get to school is that most of the students there are there to study and have fun, and don't give a sh*t about them playing soccer. If your kid enjoys being on the team, and thinks its worth all the hard work, he'll be happy. If he wakes up in his dorm, and soccer dad isn't there to tell him what to do, he might just start wondering why he's busting his butt kicking a ball all the time while his roommates are studying and partying. It's a difficult thing.. teenagers normally have second thoughts..

I think maybe you might be a little bit too sensitive.

Perhaps the D3 players want to actually play rather than to brag they're going D1. Lots of players over the years have won the lottery getting into great D3 programs and play. Perhaps they understand that if you're not one of the top 3-4 recruits coming in for D1, then you'll be sitting. Perspective changes when you're at a so-so academic program, busting your butt and sitting the bench. Unless your sitting at Harvard or got a scholarship at Colgate, better to be playing at Colby.

Wrong. No such pressure or conversation is had with the players regarding their school choice. You just pulled that comment out of your *****

Of course, the players and their families might be playing this game very well. For those who are talented enough to play D1, it is possible that the financial incentive for D1 might be the only way they are going to go to college and, in order to get an education, might be willing to risk riding the bench while attending college for a significantly lower price. At 60K per year higher education becomes very expensive even for a family income of 200,000 per year, which might not qualify for enough aid. Within every school (well almost) a student can attain a great education and build from it.....assuming the student wants to. If the student is not motivated then why even waste the time at college.....learn a trade.

Why is it that when ever D1 is mentioned there is an accusation of "bragging"? If you do better or achieve more are you supposed to never mention it because if you do you are bragging? What about the D3 players that ride the bench...should they have gone to community college?
