Trying to find out more about the NE10 with regards to soccer. In New England ( Mass) only a few years (work transfer) and son interested in NE10 schools. Academically they all look very good, some more liberal arts than others with others offering more career oriented majors.

That being said how is the soccer in NE10. Player is a club player but must realistically examine if he is D2 caliber or veer to the D3. Likes campus at Assumption but success of program is questionable from I see. New, very young coach not sure what he brings.

Any thoughts would be helpful

Go the college for the education not the sports. If it is an ok team he may play right away. A real good team he may never play. Education first is the best advice

Assumption is horrible in soccer ! They change coaches like you change socks !

They do not put much into the soccer program more into footbal and basketball but like the other person said go to school for education first and Assumption is a very good college despite poor soccer. Very large endowment which gives good money in the form of merit and grants.

Looks like they did not do a good search on the soccer coach prospects, new coach looks like he's 12 despite playing D1 at Fordham and does not have much coachung experience, c'mon Assumption you play in the NE10 get wiith the program bring someone in with experience not someone who last coached U12's.

This is always such short sighted advice. Yes you go to college to get an education but when you are playing a sport at the scholarship level in college they own you so you really need to consider a heck of a lot more about what is involved on the soccer side than simply whether or not the school's reputation for educating "normal" students is satisfactory. The truth is when you play a sport at the collegiate level you are not a "normal" student and therefore have special needs that must be met in order to even approximate the education a normal student gets at a particular school. The real issue is what does a school put into their soccer program that helps their soccer players compensate for the full time commitment they are making to the soccer team? When you get down to the D2 level of soccer, there is usually not a whole lot of money being lavished on the athletes so you need to probe even more about what is being done to help the athletes stay on track than you might at a higher profile program.

One of the problems with TS is very few people actually know what questions to even ask and simply throw out stupid little quips like this one above. That sort of advice doesn't even begin to answer how to actually go about getting that education. Here are 10 basic questions that might help you determine whether or not your child is going to actually get an education at the place they choose to play soccer for. These are just the tip of the iceberg.

1. What is the daily practice commitment in season and out of season?
2. Is my child free to pick their own major?
3. How often does the program's academic advisor meet with the players?
4. How much academic monitoring is done on each individual player?
5. What are the rules for mandatory study halls?
6. Are study halls supervised or based upon an honor system?
7. What criteria is needed to get assigned a paid tutor?
8. How are conflicts between a professor's syllabus and the soccer schedule worked out?
9. Do the athlete's get priority registration?
10. Who pays for inter-session or summer classes?

If academics is first and foremost then Assumption is good but if soccer plays a role in your search forget it. They put little effort into the program, as evident by the new coach they hired.

As of 2013, Assumption's endowment was a little over $92M. That's a large sum to you and I, but in the world of college endowments, it's a fairly modest sum. To put it in context, Harvard commands the largest endowment (by a lot) and in 2013, we were talking about $31B.

Now, how Assumption uses it's endowment to fund merit and financial aid for soccer players, is another issue entirely.

As for the new men's coach at Assumption, I know nothing of him, but it sure does seem like someone has an axe to grind about him.
