    MPS College Showcase 2009

I see the MPS College Showcase has around 40 coaches signed up to attend each of the boys and girls events next week.

There will also be a "meet and greet" with the Bradleys after each event at around 7:45. They'll be available to answer any questions people may have and they will offer advice on the college selection process. All are welcome.

Wow, yes...what a hoot...that was really really funny...no really. Did you steal that from Seinfeld?

It's a very impressive list of coaches. Much better than some highly touted tournaments if a player wants to stay in New England. Who said you had to be on a top team and attend top tournaments to get exposure to top coaches?

I assume these coaches are not stupid and aren't going to waste their time. They must believe there will be serious prospects there or they wouldn't bother.

If you consider that list of coaches "impressive" then you really need to get out of
your basement apartment a little more -- that list is a JOKE!

These are the kind of comments that encourage people to bash MPS....myself included. The organization or more-likely their team's parents try to project a high-level of talent/exposure/competition for their teams yet they can't get into the top showcase tournaments. There's nothing IMPRESSIVE about the list of coaches that'll attend this tournament....with a few exceptions, it's mostly a bunch of northeast coaches from second-tier programs. Impressive if you haven't been to the better tournaments or if you've been and played in the bottom brackets at the better tournaments. If you want to see an impressive list of coaches, look at the list of coaches in attendance at the Surf Cup, Vegas or Disney in their showcase brackets! That's IMPRESSIVE.

MPS/parents....accept that fact that you're a second-tier program who loses it's best kids to Bolts, Scorps and Stars EVERY year! ...and stop trying to bamboozle the 'regular' folks who use this thread to gather legit information about the local soccer scene! Only then will the bashing stop!

Have to agree with the previous 2 posts. That's a second-rate list.

Your post was just as ridiculous as the original post, and I am not even an MPS parent. Legit information? That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.

You are correct. If your kid is ACC material, this is not impressive and I agree with you. But if your kid (I'm looking at the girls side here) is academically oriented and interested in NE Ivys (Harvard, Dartmouth) or Nescac (Williams, Amherst, CC, Bates), this is very impressive. Good luck to the Stars girls going big time D1. And good luck to the MPS girls going small time D1 (Providence, BU, etc.) and big time D3. Sounds like everyone wins.

Having been through the recruiting thing before, and experiencing it again with a third, I can tell you that the situation is becoming more intense and the pressure is coming earlier. That is too bad. But you need to feel that your club, DOC and coach are working with and for you. I am not involved with MPS but this Thursday April 27, College Night is a great idea and shows lots of insight on their part. Timing is excellent and it provides their players with an additional opportunity to be seen. What I have found is that the number of contacts is really important and every additional time that a coach sees the player will only help with finding the right place. BTW, I wouldn't place BU in the second tier catagory. They do a good amount of local recruiting but are also regional and national players when it comes to recruiting. I think they only had six Massachusetts players on last year's roster and most were either Bolts or Scorps and played in some big-time showcases. They will watch but you need to be a very elite level player (All-New England, R1 Premier types) to land a spot with BU.

If BU only recruits players from the elite teams (Regional players, all New England as you say), why would the coach show up at this showcase? Doesn't add up.
