If they are going to start requiring a D license to coach in DS (could be an E, I may be wrong)... who else is going to potentially have a D license? Random parent volunteer?
You missed the point. He can coach but has to follow rules when picking the team. He cheated. Btw they won it last year as u12. I assume he did the same thing and didnt get caught.

Don't know which District coach you're talking about, but the rule is 6, not 5, and I think there are rumors/complaints every summer. The spirit of DSP and the letter of the rules doesn't seem to be consistently embraced by everyone involved. Obviously for some and their ego, it's all about winning, which when you stop and think about it, take a look around, that's pretty ridiculous.

Sorry, six not five. He had twelve.!!!! The point being he cheated and had practically his entire club team on the DS team. Not just a little white lie a big fat one. He should be kicked out of the tournament this weekend! The other kids in that district who tried out never had a chance.

          It's a Vikings coach.

I don't disagree. I think to the extent you see those little white lies and big fat bold ones, it's arguably the one major negative with the program. Anyone who's been to a handful of matches knows that there are some coaches who care WAY too much about getting their roster just right and winning each and every game.

I think MSYA has tried to get things more organized over the years, but obsessing over wearing the Nike attire more than whether some coaches are there to win and pose for a picture at the end instead of just promoting the game for the kids' benefit is a bit of a joke.

The players should not be penalized for the sins of the coach. The DSP administration has taken care of it and I am told that a number of players have been put on different teams. No if that coach is allowed to come back, then we have a problem.

Interesting. Hadn't heard about this. Pretty naive on MYSA's part to basically write a rule and leave it at that. It's youth soccer after all, so you know there is at least some portion of the adults involved who don't give a crap about rules or kids and not nearly as much as their own agenda. Maybe this incident will finally motivate the program administrators to take certain issues more seriously.

MYSA has been beyond inconsistent with numerous issues I’ve seen this summer. They truly need to get their act together and once they do I think District Select could be a good program. I do agree they worry about totally irrelevant junk like everyone wearing the same uniform and among other things.

Having a D license for one month of soccer is beyond silly. Most club coaches don’t have that. Just because you have a D Coaching license does not automatically make you a good coach and make the program better. Requiring a coach to got to 32 hours of classes when the frequency of the class offering is small is among other reasons the D lciense requirement for next year is crazy.

They have to sit down and decide if the league is going to be a competitive league or a politically correct everybody is a winner league. I don’t care which way they go, just decided, becasue they have each district with a different philiosphy and in each of those districts the age groups have different philosphy. Then the gender coaches have a different philosophy. Nobody is on the same page. Example say district x has 35 kids tryout and they form one good team and district y has the same number of players show up to tryouts but forms two water downed teams. Either is fine, but get on the same page because district x will smoke district y. The whole point of "Tryouts" is to take the best available players, correct?

It's a shame because it could be a great summer soccer league for competitive soccer players.

D requirement is well-intended, but the E or Level 5 seems like a good baseline for DS. The coaching part doesn't really matter though with more games than practices and no standings until a tournament. It's all about how the teams are put together.

The point about getting everyone on the same page is spot on and that really means the district coordinators. One set of rules, guidelines, standards for everyone and follow through to make sure each district is doing things the same way. If a coach breaks the rules, that's not just a coach problem, that's a district coordinator problem.

If it's about participation and getting kids together to play where some are better than others, great. My kids have loved it. It's organized pickup. They like winning better than losing, but don't really care by the time they get in the car. The refs are pretty good, the parents and coaches are mostly positive. What they haven't liked is when someone acts like a jerk. There's no getting rid of that I suppose.

Sometimes the coordinators are the problem... my daughter had a great time her first year and couldn't wait to play the next summer. Then the District coordinator replaced the 1st year's coach with one of his buddies who took advantage of a lack of oversight by MYSA and manipulated the program to suit himself. Totally ruined the experience for her. Even my daughter thought he got what he deserved when the team got knocked out of the tournament during pool play. When the same coach was named for the following year she said there was no way she'd play again if he was the coach.

It seems like once MYSA has your payment they don't really care what happens within the program. It's too bad because I think it's a great opportunity to meet new kids and play some low pressure soccer.

Vikings...Make sure your kids keep an eye for these boys. They play extremely reckless, fouling when things don't go their way. Seen a couple of our players get stomped/ cleated by one of their defenders when he was beaten. Coach encouraged this type of play.

Looks like they had all their players today. No punishment for the cheater coach. Parents at the game today had to get between the two coaches. The coaches and players were out of control.

Another one. BU12 D3 coach Dave Medeiros has at least 8 of his Explosion FC club team on his squad. These guys think it will go unnoticed, all these boys know each other. I hope someone formally complains, it's pretty pathetic. But then again, Medeiros is also pathetic.

I saw that scene. The coaches were screaming at each other in front if kids and parents got involved to break up fight. Disgusting behavior from all involved. No wonder the kids are so dirty and out of control.
