The End of Region 1 League

With the arrival of Boys NPL and arguably some of the best boys program in the state like NEFC, New England Aztec, GPS Elite and Bruno all involved, starting at U13 in the Fall, is the Region 1 league now just another Maple?

I would certainly think so. A small Maple program like FC Blazers (which fielded a total of 7 teams for both boys and girls in Maple Spring 2014) will not be the desired landing spot for boys. If it ever was. USYS's Region 1 will become insignificant and will not be considered the top level of competition for boys.

The whole point of Region 1 for MA teams is seeing the tough NY teams. So how is NPL better? Actually NPL is maybe a little better MAPLE. Less travel.

Yes and there is nothing wrong with that. All it means that players from families with less re sources will have more chances to be exposed . Small clubs like south Shore blazers were players pay minimal club fees will be exposed to regional play. I am very excited. Thank you nefc and gps !!!

Francis must be tossing and turning. Discarded once again. Too small to compete.

Families with less resources, as you put it, cannot pay basic club fees and that will, in the end, finish off the small boys programs. Anyone spot Francis Okaroh at a town competition(Commissioner's Cup) recently handing out low quality photocopies of his program to every passer by? Incredibly annoying. He's panicking obviously, as others will do the same.

The better NY/NJ based boys team will be seen in the regional and final NPL Boys competitions. Something like 100 teams will compete, including Academy teams. Sorry to say, Region 1 will fade away.

Valeo/Newton United is also screwed. I spoke to the DOC about just recently and he said there is no way they can apply immediately and be accepted but he did mention in the near future. Probably wishful thinking, we may have to move next year, yet again. Frustrating!

State run USYS sanctioned programs and leagues will also fade away. NPL's ID2 and PDP will take over almost overnight. State run ODP not viable anymore for either gender.

PDA has joined US Club Soccer, sorry mate. There goes your theory.

PDA is NJ not NY mate, and there are plenty of NY teams to play who are not in DAP.

                        Thread started by GPS??

So far this is a great advertisement for NEP/NEPL/EDP/NPL or whatever acronym it chooses to go by.
However, considering that there is yet another entity and path for a club team to attend a national championship tournament, I ask the question as to whether this is really a better mode of development. For the Boys there are at least three paths to some national championship for which the value and importance is not clear.

Our family has been involved in youth sports for 10 years and have found the following:
                        1. Development is very dependent on the coach and stability of the club.
                        2. Cost and location can significantly affect the stress placed on a family and alter the emotions of the player.
                        3. College coaches, National team coaches etc etc collect and congregate at the following venues: Showcase tournaments; Showcase ID camps; ODP camps; and their own prospect camps. National championships are simply not a big draw believe it or not, unless their is a specific player that they are already aware of.

So explain to me how these new changes are really truly going to alter, for the better, the way that American youths train.

Valeo will play in EDP. Simply go to EDP and look at the R1 rankings of the teams from NJ/NY in top division, much stronger than New England teams above.

That is some serious miles that Valeo will travel to play a game.
