The example of above assumes all the same curriculum. Calc for both or maybe an AP track for both.

If the Philips kids has a 3.5 what does the Somerville kid have to have 3.8?
"all things equal" is hard to quantify.

Sure the Calc class at a private might be tougher but there are other ways to tell if the kids are at the same level. Surely you believe there are kids in public school as smart and talented as kids in private.
It is easy to say "ATE" or "same level of kid" but somewhere someone is looking at a 3.5 from Philips and they have to guess-estimate an adjustment value so that they can compare Somerville to Philips.

I have a rising 8th grader who is strong academically and athletically.
I understand the recruiting process for colleges but I am a little confused by the private school process. Any insight would be tremendous.
In addition to the insight, I do have a simple/stupid question. please be gentle with me.
Do private schools give athletic scholarships to kids who otherwise could afford to go? Assuming they have the grades.

Private high schools give out need based aid and merit scholarships (at least my daughter's school does). It seems equatable to D III College. That said, we are not needy and my daughter is only an average student and we received 95% of her tuition paid. She was the coach's top choice and I believe we were awarded accordingly.

You inferred the athletic scholarship. That may or may not be a safe assumption but one that is not verbalized.
I doubt the poster is going to say the school. Kind of a silly question

Once she decided which school she liked best and which coach she felt the most comfortable with, she invited him to see her play and it was easy after that. I imagine every experience is different but I thought the process was much easier than I expected it to be.
