    Father's Day Tournaments

I am home happy that my child is not participating in any tournament's this weekend....especially today. Out of curiosity, I did look at the brackets for the two local Father's Day tournaments that are taking place: GPS and Bayside Bolts.

The brackets look anemic. The Bayside tournament has 1 perhaps two brackets in each....half of the teams are Bayside Bolts or Bolts. The GPS tournament has 2 brackets in each age group, of which 70-75% of the teams are GPS.

Although I don't doubt that there is decent soccer being played, but at what point does the youth soccer season end.....or at least take a break??

It stops when parents say "we are busy that weekend". Its the ones that keep showing up (well meaning), that keep the season of tournaments going.

I am sure there is pressure from the clubs to attend these tournaments. Both of these tournaments are useless.
GPS uses it to give there paying customers the promised tournament included in their bill

We said 'no' this weekend. We were involved in a Father's day tournament two years ago and nothing was gained. The boys were finalist, but it was a hot weekend wasted down in RI

So far, we have had a very nice weekend.
Cudos to those who are enjoying the soccer, but with summer pretty much here, I am glad to start early........besides, our soccer club will start practicing soon!!!!

When I am in the bathroom , I do 3 things # 1 and #2 or combo of #1 and #2 and I check my TS on my smartphone. If you see a typo I blame it on my lunch. Happy Father day back to my family

see a doctor. A lot of time in the bathroom, you should get checked.

It is a good point. I don't know if people said that they are thrilled to be away from soccer, but just that these Father's Day tournaments seem to be anemic and insignificant (except to gain gotsoccer points). I say this from experience a couple of years ago (despite a good showing by my son's team) and the fact that the brackets are more than 50% populated by the clubs that are hosting the tournament (GPS and Bayside/Bolts). Compared to last year neither tournament has gained in popularity....if anything both have declined.

As for posting on TS, I can do that in a matter of minutes without getting into a car and driving each way for 60 minutes, without losing a large amount of personal or family time, without losing a large bulk of exercise time, and without missing a World Cup game if I so choose to watch one.

I would say more but I got to go........

Looks like GPS should probably give up on this tournament for the younger ages. Getting beat by RI town teams doesn't really help their "elite" image

Doesn't wrap the NEP or Got Soccer points in glory either. A D3 Maple team has beaten all 3 GPS NEP teams including destroying the low NEP teams and beating the undefeated D2 NEP GPS team in the semi's.

I am not sure what you are talking about. Looking at all the brackets, with infrequent exception, it appears that a GPS or affiliate pretty much won everything. Of course, 75% of the teams were theirs.

Look at the young boys brackets where there was more non gps entered in the tournament.

I am not really sure what to make of U10 and U11 soccer. I have seen plenty of town teams, with very few club soccer players beat teams from very good clubs simply by having a decent amount of skill, but mostly by being very athletic and strong. This combination will carry a team for some time, perhaps until U13/U14 when the game goes to 11 v 11 and 'how to play soccer' becomes more important.

When the GPS FDT brackets got older, the GPS team did well. Before that I would say that they only won 40-50% of the brackets.

I was talking about GU14. The RI GPS affiliate team won final (barely), but the runner up is the Maple team I'm talking about.
