DAP tryouts U14- Revs and Bolts- Low turnout

My son was at 2 RTCs and 2 Bolts tryouts- Weak showing at both Revs RTCs AND Bolts tryouts. what's going on? He also said the skill level at the RTCs was not what he expected (not impressed).

I can see why people wouldn't want to go to either club (Scales at U16 Revs is a disaster and there's a small chance of making Revs U16 from U14; Bolts is pay to play and then there's the DAP specific issues: too much travel and no HS soccer).

...but where are the players who want to play at the highest level of competition in this area??

People realize that there isn't any benefit to u14 academy over a strong club. At u16 this changes, but why commute and travel for u14. People seem to be waking up.

And at least give kids a chance to see if they like HS soccer. It's unfair to ask them to give it up before they've ever played it.

USSF instituted in season tryouts for DAP. They are getting away from cattle call tryouts. Some players tried out previously at practices.

this is not new. it was done the same way last year. Many more came last year to both Bolts tryouts and Revs (RTCs). Heard only a few players tried out at practices.

In the case of the Revs, several of the starters were 2000 birthyear, so they don't need that many players.

Some people really want to play for the Revs and some only want to if they are starters. Some don't mind being practice players others do.

                Everyone has to make decisions.

For myself the travel costs and commute time are not worth it. If my son is a great player at U16, then sure I would be willing to pay money.

To answer the other question about where are the other top players going, check out the top four NEP and BU13 State Cup teams (Bulldogs, Classics, NEFC, FC Mass, Hammer, Valeo, Aztecs). Each team might have a spot or two left.

Not true! Based on the first u14 to u16 transition last year, 10 of the 16 98s made the squad. As many or more of this year's u14s should make next year's u16 squad.

actually it was more like 6 and play time for some of them was dismal- not worth the risk. also haven't heard one good thing about Scales. All negative.

not true. several of their 2000s didn't start this year and got little playing time. Most of the starters were 99s.

very tough to make starter on the revs u16- many revs U14s don't make it. others take a DP spot or have a lot of bench time.

No, it was 10 (8 of whom are still listed on the team's DAP page). Two of the 10 players left the team. Three of the players had prep school waivers and didn't end up playing much upon their return. Counting the three 99s who played full-time on the u16s, 6 players from last year's u14s were starters, which isn't too bad considering they are at the "bottom" of the age group. In contrast, the Bolts had exactly zero full-time players from last year's U14 pre-academy team who started more than 35% of the games at u16 this year. Most Bolts u14 players end up doing u15 pre-academy.

yes true, I said several not most. Check the stats on line. It all depends on what position your son plays. If he is a defender, then the Revs U14 needs defenders and a goalie.
