Nobody is forced to stay anywhere. Just keep your options opne in club soccer. It's a business with lots of money floating around. Just go or stay at the place the fits your kid at the time. Things change, so what might be great last year could not be working out the current year.

I see no problem in parents working the field and trying to help out their team. If you don't like it, don't go to the team. Not a big deal to in my eyes. Trust me coaches do far worse than parents and they're under recruitment rules. You do have gray areas with MAPLE and NEP. Cross league stuff....not sure on all the rules.

Kids have already got offered spots on MPS Npl teams and on the ECNL teams. Coaches all recruit or just tell the players they have a spot before tryouts.

MPS also offered spots on regular teams to current players not just npl and ecnl

All clubs should give their players this same respect and courtesy of extending offers before tryouts. Otherwise, the players have no choice but to attend multiple clubs tryouts even if they want to stay on their current team, just in case they aren't asked back. This would seem to benefit the club as well, since they would lock in players before facing the risk of losing them to another club during tryout season. Why don't more clubs do this??

            Tryouts

My daughter plays on an ECNL team, is a strong player, and has never been guaranteed a spot before tryouts. She attends tryouts and waits for the results like everyone else.

that's the way it should be a fair slate for all trying out

ECNL programs can recruit. There are no rules against it.

Yeah but it isn't. We play at one of the big clubs and were basically told at the beginning of the month that this whole month is like a tryout. The only thing I would see a tryout changing for my kid is if they were on the bubble and did really well or really poorly, it is the last thing the coach would see. But one has to think that the coach knowing the kids and how they play in final games under pressure, for example, or in reg season games, would matter somewhat, compared to just seeing someone on a field for an hour or two.

The top players are given a verbal wink and nod. They still need to show up for try-outs, but the coach has basically already told the top 6-8 that they have a slot back. Gives the coach a chance to watch the bottom half of the roster vs the new players at try-outs. If you have not received a verbal notice from your coach that your D is welcome back next year, she probably is not in coaches top 6-8.

At this point, the coaches know their rosters very well (unless you're at a club that has revolving door coaching positions). They know who they want back, who they're willing to take back if a better player doesn't emerge, and who they are hoping to replace. They know which players that have been trying out or playing for a lower level team are ready to move in and displace someone. At this point, they just need to wait and find out who actually accepts their offers, and work down the list from there.
