    Parents at Needham Tournament

Since there's so much crap said on this board, figured I'd mix it up a bit.

I attended my daughter's games (U15) vs. Aztec - Flaherty and Blackwatch at the Needham tournament. Parents were complimenting good play on both sides, letting the refs do their job, joking around with each other, etc. It was awesome to see.

It's too bad this is the exception and not the rule these days. Just sayin'.

It is refreshing when it happens. It doesn't happen nearly enough. Parents should stand on the sidelines and cheer them on, not try and coach them or yell at refs. If there is an issue with a call it's the coach's job to take it up with the ref. Sit back and enjoy watching your kid play. Before you know it they are in college and this is a distant memory.

A psychologist couldn't write fast enough to keep up with all of the psychoses going on with parents at some soccer games. Note that I said 'some' games, not all.

I live in the area and got to see several games this weekend out of love for the game. I had no one playing so I can be objective in my assessment. That being said, here are my winners for most obnoxious parents at Needham:

1st place: u18 boys from Martha's Vineyard. ( Need to get off the island more and see that physical contact is actually allowed in soccer).

2nd place (but a close second): Morris United u15 boys from NJ. ( You must have to sign an agreement that you use an F bomb in every other sentence when watching from the sidelines on this team)

lol we used to live in CT and played NJ and Long Island teams often. Felt like I had to cover my younger kids' ears half the time.

Italian soccer moms dropping the f-bomb are hot. Just saying.

So true, the LI crowd often turns out to be worse behaved than the much maligned Jersey folks.

I would have to agree with you on the MV parents. It was very entertaining watching them. I couldn't figure out if it was the ocean air or the lack of contact with people from the mainland. I expect this type of over the top behavior from parents of younger teams but to see this at U18 was amazing. It was both moms and dads screeming constantly from the sidelines. What are they going to do when they precious little Landon's go to college next year? Funny thing was they acted like the world would end if they didn't win and it was not even the top division of the tournament. Very humorous (and sad)

Yep! my daughter's team played a NJ Team from Mt. Olive, a couple of the girls on that team dropping 'f'bombs like it was their job. The parents were as obnoxious as they get, so much so after their loss were doing their best to imitate Mass. quotes like 'wicked hawt' and 'wicked pisser', yet these weren't exactly hot Italian Moms. No sirree Bob, these gals hadn't missed much of a meal or buffet, should I say. I looked at them and said " if you're gonna say it say it right: "Wicket not wicked". The day before we played a Team from Rochester and the parents and kids were completely different, nothing like their brethren in the lower NY/NJ area.

I started the game sitting near them and had to move out of fear that others would think I was part of their team. One mother, seriously, at one point must have let 10 f bombs fly in a row. No other words. Just F F F F F F F F F F F! They were colorful, and yes, sad.

Yep, it's like watching an episode of the Sopranos. Northern Jerseyites are a very crass bunch. Makes us look genteel in comparison on the sidelines during our state cup games.

And nope, I don't agree at all that Italian soccer moms who constantly drop f-bombs are hot. Quite the opposite.

Too funny. I'm an ECNL parent and I will attest that the parents of the two LI teams - Albertsons and East Meadow are the worst, hands down. They spread out like cockroaches, are the loudest people on Earth and almost all of them coach from the sidelines. It's really unbearable. There is literally nowhere to hide.

Last time we played Albertsons one of them was on the phone most of the game, but that didn't stop him from constantly reminding his kid to go to the goal, get on the back post and play with intensity about 200 times or so. I really feel for whoever he was was one the phone with.

I hear ya, my oldest daughter played against the Manhattan Fury a while back, she was backing up to receive a goalie punt with the girl from Fury right behind, she fell back and they both fell to the ground. The girl from the fury swung her leg around and kicked my daughter in the face, naturally my daughter got up and let out a fury of her own (verbally) and she got carded by the Ref. her coach went nuts.

That's fine. There are plenty of frigid Irish soccer moms in Boston with the Sunblock SPF 999. In the meantime, I'll take the Italians baby. Fuggedaboutit!

A few years back my daughter played a team from Syosset Long Island. From that point on we always had a laugh about the "Syosset Screamers"

Yep, Janice Soprano is one hot babe :)

One episode of Sopranos really did include a story of big brute Janice screaming on the sidelines at her daughter's soccer game and then exchanging insults with an equally loud-mouth (but petite) mom on the other team before pummeling her to the ground.

One of the Soprano writers must have did time on the soccer fields of New Jersey....
