Clubs control players and MYSA ignored that fact.
Clubs do control players... control their pocketbooks anyway. If every year you have clubs claiming that in order to develop you have to run off to a separate league and then change that league every year, it is easy to see the scam. As parents (consumers), be smart. That's all.

Now that all the largest clubs will be part of US Club and not affiliated with MYSA the town teams may struggle to hold onto their players.
It doesn't make the rift that much bigger. On boys side, Pre-academy League and DAP were already completely ignoring MYSA and town, and the conventional clubs were ignoring town and only working with MYSA via State Cup. Many families already dropped out of town once they opted for U13 club, so no real change there. What town-based travel teams should do is be inclusive of kids who want to play club, rather than exclude them. So some of the town players prioritize club over town? Having them some of the time helps all the other players rather than harms them. And it helps the club players who want to continue in their town program by getting touches 5-6 days some weeks, rather than 3-4.

You nailed it. Remove the dual rostering restrictions, remove the barriers at the local level and let the kids who want to play, play.

Problem is, that it really isn't about "development" or the kids, or the game, it is about controlling players and demanding allegiance to either the town or club.

The writing is on the wall. Looks like the rumors about a return of promo relegation may be true. At least between NEP and the NPL.

Then if you merged all the clubs that are in either the ECNL or NPL and formed one top level league you would have a heck of competitive league.

Its similar to what the schools do, demanding allegiance. Then DAP did the same thing, and while DAP portrays it that everyone chose DAP, in fact some did, and some chose school. Supposedly some of these ECNL clubs also want to demand allegiance. Schools, clubs, town should all chill way out and embrace less control, but it will never happen.

What town program excludes club players? If there are any, that is ridiculous. In my experience, it has been the opposite: clubs pressuring their players not to play town.

Which is pretty funny because at the very first NEP club director meeting the NEP organizers were adamant that the biggest thing wrong with MAPLE and youth soccer was promotion/relegation.

NEP doesn't need to implement p/r. It will be implemented as more of an qualification process for teams to get into the NPL.
