So ironic and laughable because it's the technically gifted players that PB largely ignores especially if they are average or small in size. He prefers the big, athletically gifted, lesser skilled, aggressive types.

Every club and most colleges have this motto. If you have a smaller than average kid don't expect them to make the top teams. It can happen, but that kid has to be so much better than everyone else to even get noticed.

This is so true. My daughter was a top player until about U11, but her size was not an issue back then. She's now average height but built very lanky and lean. She does great at the club level she is at, but she knows her build and body style will keep her from being a top level club player or playing past high school. It was a but of a let down when the realization came, but she is okay with that, and I still love watching her play.

Well said. I've had a kid on a PB team and clearly this parent has a beef because he/she is so far off the mark. For evidence look at the starting midfielder for the Revs U16, who spent all his time with MPS before going to the Revs. Probably no taller than 5.5 but a gifted, technical, fast and strong player. If you are small and technical but do not have the speed and strength to go with it then you are an average player.

Sometimes it is hard to fight genetics. There are exceptions in every sport of players that do not have the "proper dimensions" (Wes Welker, Spud Web, Dustin P.) but those are the exceptions and not the norm.

That said, there are also exceptions that where someone doesn't fit their parental genetics. Michael Jordan is an example. His parents and brothers are short. He grew very late.

Short of playing myself, watching my children play sports is one of my greatest joys -- regardless of their physical level.

He used to be very much like this but he's starting to change his attitude lately. For the first time in years (ever?) he recommended a small technical kid for an NTC. i'm guessing this is in part because his older brother plays for a Revs Academy team ... But hey it's better than nothing!!!

Some of you are so blinded by your personal desires it is almost laughable. You're obviously complaining because your small but "technical" kid did not get a recommendation that NTC but the truth probably is they are not nearly as "technical" as they need to be to offset their lack of size, never mind that they probably not anywhere close to being fast enough.

The size issue is real because physics do apply to sports. When two bodies make contact, the bigger, more forceful one will always win. The trick for the small player is not making contact so they can be pushed off the ball or deflected of their path. That is very hard to do in the middle of the field where there are more than enough big, strong, technical players in the game today. Unless a small player is off the charts in terms of their field vision and ball control they are usually going to be relegated to the outside where they are going to need extraordinary speed. If they don't have that sort of speed they are not really a prospect and it would then be hard to fault a coach who knows what others are looking for for not sending that player to a NTC.
