UML Coach Elie Monteiro did go to SNHU. He's an SNHU alum and SNHU is apparently 5 min. from home. If the money was competitive I can't say I blame him for making a family based decision. Coaching takes a lot of time and if being closer to home gives him more time with his family and kids then good for him.
So now we have 2 local America East teams in coach-search mode: UML & UNH. Anyone that you can think of that might be a good fit for either team? Did McGirr from Providence land anywhere? Maybe a solid D-II or D-III head coach looking for a D-I ride? Maybe an assistant at a solid D-I program looking to make the jump to Head Coach?

So the 1-16-1 record had nothing to do with it. A disguised D2 school with limited funds for sports scholarships.....difficult to recruit. Smart move, get out of dodge.

The move from D-II to D-I is hard, that's why the NCAA mandates a 4-year transition period. Even UML's D-II national champion field hockey team only went 2-16. The only teams that were above .500 were men's basketball and baseball.

This past fall, if I'm not mistaken, was their first year in D1 so their results are not unexpected. I've seen them play this spring, they looked very good. I would assume the coach deserves the credit for what I saw.

Athletics at UMass Lowell
Whether you want to hit the field or cheer from the sidelines, UMass Lowell has it all when it comes to sports. UMass Lowell announced on February 14, 2013 that it would be moving to Division I in all sports and joining the America East Conference. The River Hawks began competing in 14 sports in Division I in the 2013-14 academic year, but will not be eligible for postseason play while it completes the four-year NCAA reclassification from Division II to Division I. The River Hawks will be full Division I members of America East in 2017-18.

They KNEW they were making the switch (or at least trying to). The inference that they were left unprepared by this move to D1 is absurd. I would also guarantee they used the move in their recruiting of potential players as well. Cmon.
