Private soccer coaching in CT -- Is MA next?

Found this post in the CT forum, looks interesting. What do you guys think..would you use it?

Wallingford, CT -- E90Coach, Connecticut’s first-ever online marketplace connecting youth
soccer players and preeminent private coaches, announces the launch of its interactive website, www.e90coach.com.

The site presently features more than 25 distinguished coaches from across Connecticut. Each coach possesses significant experience and training, as well as prominent soccer careers, including former NCAA players to collegiate and competitive coaches along with nationally-recognized standouts from Portugal, Puerto Rico and across the U.S. The online platform (www.e90coach.com) enables parents to search available coaches by location and ratings, browse profiles and background checks, identify availability and both book and pay for sessions directly on the site.

Founder J.J. Comeau, a lifelong Wallingford resident, was awarded top-prize at the New Tech Haven Business Plan Competition in May 2013, providing the foundational support to launch E90Coach.

“I launched E90Coach after spending my entire life playing soccer,” says Comeau. “I recognized that, while talent can take you far, I wouldn’t have reached the level of play that I did without top notch private coaching, which I had from a very young age. It’s what helped me excel on the high school field, and what propelled me towards a collegiate soccer career.”

This type of thing exists in Mass as well. I reviewed one site recently, because a friend asked about a couple of coaches he had seen advertising there for a different sport (it's a multi-sport site). There are kids in all kinds of sports that seek out personal, sport-specific training. I think it's here to stay, and will continue to migrate toward the younger ages where parents are looking to maintain whatever competitive edge little Susie or little Johnny has shown at U-little.

As far as the soccer clubs go, they'll want to try to grab some of those personal training $'s. They won't be happy with the thought of their better players getting trained by other coaches who might then recruit them away.

Nothing but kids for the most part. Good luck pursuing the dream.

Too bad this isn't a soccer club...which means I doubt the politics and bs that come along with clubs are present with this company. This type of service is a great idea and seems like a no brainer!

I thought soccer was a team sport??

How do you learn real soccer when you have one on one coaching. What are you bringing some 23 year old kid to backyard for some real training ??

I think you're missing the point. Some kids need the extra one on one training as they may not be getting the full attention needed in a team environment. It is also beneficial to those 'better' players who want to stay ahead of the game.

Not sure why this is such a revelation. It is not difficult to find someone to coach your kid 1v1. Must be the flashy website.

People will pay for it. But many don't realize that even a 1 on 1 coaching environment can only provide so much if their kid simply doesn't have the athletic build and skills rise above the masses, especially on the girls side. There are many many examples of top younger players not going too far after puberty is not kind to their bodies. Sad but true.

Why is this so bad when on other threads you have people pushing DAP and ECNL. Aren't they all basically promising the same thing?

                          Ay ay ay...

If I'm a coach—and I am—and one of my field players felt the need to seek out private instruction as means to get "better", I would promptly walk away from the game.

If I had the occasion to speak to anyone considering such, I would ask...why?

                            to name a few;

                            club:

                            1. shows favoritism
                            2. not offering adequate training times
                            3. does not work on skills player wishes to develop (but on own objectives)
                            4. negative/unapproachable coaching environment
                            5. large communication gap / confusion /
                            6. constant change and rotation of coaching

                            - and it's easier to say find a different club, but think about it... what is the case in another club?

There are a few organizations that specialize in 1 on 1 training in Mass that aren't run through club teams. We've used www.1on1soccer.com before and found it to be very beneficial.
