    Thoughts: Greater Lowell FC

Found that there's a new club in the Lowell area called Greater Lowell FC. They're starting up a new team from the getgo in the NPSL, with a reserve team playing in BSSL. They are charging for tickets; $10 for an individual ticket, or $60 for a jersey that serves as a season ticket. Technically, they recruited players to start playing this season back in a late November tryout that have been practicing since January. Word I've heard is that they've accepted almost everyone that came to their open tryout as they've only turned away 9 people from that.

Should be interesting to see how it works. Seacoast looks like it has trouble coming up with forming a team on their NH side to stand up to their NY counterparts.

They did get pounded by Brooklyn Italians last night; Brooklyn won the division last season and have most of their team back. Next will be home&home vs NYRB23s which will be another couple of tough outings, but GL will fare better as they find teams (RI? ME?) more at their level & experience....

Welcome to the lower divisions! I think you will find that NPSL has one or two strong teams in each division and then falls off, so there will be some exciting match ups to come. Lowell does not seem to have a lot of college players, this is a chance for a bunch of kids "outside the system" "overlooked by club soccer"

They had a couple of hundred people come, gave Bruins updates over the PA, had food trucks and beer. Cawley is not a bad surface, well lit and stands are in good shape; they are to play half their home matches there and the balance at Lawrence Vets, sort of a pan-Merrimac Valley thing.

Good luck Dragons! A bit expensive though, PDL charges only $6 I think

Agreed as for NPSL; interesting that they had a few hundred people in the stands. They are definitely working hard to market what they have but not sure if NPSL is the right place for them and if it's right for them to call themselves a professional soccer match. They said they will also add youth club teams; which they'll be successful with all the marketing power they are developing. However, this is the time they should be marketing tryouts yet they still haven't said a peep about it.

Looked in the game report on the NPSL website (http://www.npsl.info/MatchReports/64214691/4600340.html), this was 6 second half goals, four of them in the last 10 minutes - here's the recap from the Italians (Lowell has not posted stats or report as yet):

Brooklyn Italians travel to Massachusetts to rout Greater Lowell United; Italians cruise to an 8-0 victory

Lowell, Massachusetts - The Brooklyn Italians travelled to Lowell, Massachusetts and shutout Greater Lowell United, using 6 second half goals to seal an 8-0 win. With the win, Brooklyn improved to 2-0 on the season, with a plus 10 goal differential.

“Anytime you go away you prepare yourself,” said Brooklyn head coach Lucio Russo. “We go into the game 100% ready for anything. Tonight’s game was a boxing match, we felt them out and they felt us out, but we were lucky to deal the first two blows in the first half. We made adjustments in the second half and we ended up putting the game away. I felt we were physically ready, and we proved it in the second half.”

In the first half, both teams put even amounts of pressure on each other, creating chance after chance. The home team had the first chance of the game when a Lowell attacker shot the ball slightly to the right of the net. In the 12th minute, Brooklyn’s Ricky Milano opened the scoring. The Venezuelan defender nodded the ball off of a corner between the Lowell goalkeeper’s legs and into the goal for his first goal of the season.

Following Milano’s goal, the momentum shifted in Brooklyn’s favor. In the 39th minute, Brooklyn’s persistence paid off as Yvener Guerrier scored his third goal of the season, blasting a shot to the right of the keeper to double the Italians’ advantage.

In the second half, Brooklyn came out with extra intensity as they put incredible pressure on the Lowell defense. Throughout the whole half, the Italians dictated the game with good passing and great attacking spells. The breakthrough came in the 50th minute from Brooklyn’s Kareem Joachim who made the game 3-0. The fourth goal came six minutes later when Joachim made a run on the right wing and drove a low cross across the face of goal that Guerrier coolly placed into the net to make the contest a comfortable 4-0.

Four goals in the last ten minutes of the game put the cherry on top for the Brooklyn Italians. They broke the game open with goals from Ricky Milano, Salvatore Barone, Sean Sepe, and Diego Zuniga, the latter ensured the 8-0 score in the 90th minute.

“We kept up the intensity and they couldn’t keep up,” commented Brooklyn Italians captain Kirk Scarlett. “Our substitutes came in with an equal amount of energy as our starters. It was an overall great game on our part, we played as a unit, we came together and moved the ball smoothly today, especially in the second half after the game settled down.”

The Brooklyn Italians travel to Newark, NJ on Wednesday, May 14tth as they face Jersey Express SC in a huge U.S. Open Cup second round matchup. Kick off from Lubetkin Field begins at 8:00 PM.

And they announced that Jason Moore resigned today. Wow; coached GLUFC's first NPSL game and out right after.
