That was the statement and it's ridiculous. Good town programs help these kids develop from U6-U10, so do other sports and camps and clinics. Town is great for their continued development if it is done right. Many situations are. To make that blanket statement is ridiculous. Go back to coaching college and leave youth soccer coaches alone. Let the players we help develop make you look good. Some of these clubs like to take so much credit for their good youth players development they act like they gave birth to them for heaven's sake.

In many cases, they were given a lot to work with to begin with and part, not all of the development going forward.
So true. So many clubs have so little appreciation for the volunteers at the town level it's stunning since most of their customers come from there. The more touches a kid gets the more they will develop. And to play with their friends and be forced to be aggressive because they might be on of the better players at the younger ages is a good thing.

The disrespect cuts both ways. Many town programs have a vehement resistance to any type of club soccer. Both sides see it as competition.

A good town coach will direct exceptional players towards the greater challenges inherent within club soccer.

A good club coach will never direct a low level player away from the club and back to town.

        That's the difference.

"A good club coach will never direct a low level player away from the club and back to town."

Happens all the time. It's called getting cut at tryouts.

            Never before U13 though. That's why clubs have C & D teams.

              Regarding the original topic ...

IMHO ... Weymouth may not be the best BU14 team in the SSSL this coming spring (nevermind MTOC).

I like Weymouth's incoming U13's, but in my opinion, Braintree, Brockton and Easton all have stronger U14's (sorry).

Also, I am not sure how much a differentiator the coach's (JC's) club experience is since as I recall, he was a club coach for about a half-season.

To be fair though ... I like Weymouth's chances next year (2014/2015)!

I think he coached multiple teams at Scorpions though. Doesn't he also coach WUFC. I think JC is one of the cornerstones of Weymouth's new plan travel/club. Look for the U14 to have a good season.

I don't know about his soccer IQ, but he figured out the Scorpion way and left after the first year. It takes most other coaches 3 years. That says something.

When JC is a cornerstone to anything you are in trouble. If you are trusting him to run your organization and be a cental figure you may want to do a background check on him first.

We shouldn't really be talking about background checks on here. My questions is why do towns like Weymouth continue to run "club" programs as opposed to letting their kids go to real clubs like MPS, NEFC, Select, and Scorpions?

The reason is, a lot of these kids would rather play Town/Club then be on a second or third tier team with another club. Also, their friends are on the team...and it's fun.

On a side note, these town teams (Weymouth, Duxbury, Norwell, etc.) are very competitive against "Real Club" teams on the Premier/Club level. It offers the kids the opportunity to play against Scorpions or Select Premier teams at a 3rd of the cost. Excluding the "Real Club" Elite, many of the town teams fairly consistently defeat the Premier teams from the "Real Clubs." My kid was on a Town/Club team for a few years, and his team played and defeated the premier level teams from NEFC, Scorpions, Select, Blackwatch, etc.

Lastly, the term "Letting" in your post is moronic. It's a free country, kids can go where they wish.

Does Weymouth town travel have the ability to keep kids from playing club soccer? I would guess there are several traditional club players on their team.

                            No. Most play both.

For the 2nd and 3rd level "club" team player this model does make sense, but it holds back the top players who could make the top teams as the town program makes them believe they can provide the same opportunities.

at 10,11 or 12 years old what are those "same opportunities"?
