The first division of the NEP, like the first division of MAPLE, are good until age U14 at which time the more competitive teams will try to gain entrance into the regional play and attend competitive tournaments. The leagues seem to be less important, but good for training. Below the first divisions, I would question the overall benefit and balance with how much money you are paying, all taken together with what your end-points are.

As a one-time DAPer but now, with my younger son not, I would say that the academy leagues are very competitive, but unnecessarily keep the kids from playing with their town and/or high school teams at the older ages. However, this is a choice that is made. At this time, playing for the Bolts academy is worthwhile, but their non-academy teams are not so strong and certainly are not given near equal consideration by the club. The Revs academy teams are good (no pre academy or other options) but there is little guarantee that your kid will get much play-time, which is as important as the practices.

It is all about finding a good fit given the above considerations and also your family and time spent playing soccer balanced with school and family time.

            Good luck
