You only have to go .500 for the year or 1 point for every game you play. If you have a 17 game season you need to have 17 points. 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie. You are ranked by your win lose record. Lose and you are out.

Each school is assigned to a size Division based on male enrollment. This should be done statewide, but instead they break it down into 4 geographic zones ("sections") first. This allows the zone with the biggest schools (North, and to lesser extent South) to have several schools assigned to a Division of mostly smaller schools and thus improve their chances of winning the playoffs. Put another way, a school of a given size in one part of the state can be Division 1, but if it were in another location in the state, it can be Division 2. We hope the state fixes this inequity soon, as other HS sports in the state do not have this bias.
The South and North sections have 4 divisions (formerly 3), while the Central and West have 3 (with no Division 2).
In North, South and Central, teams are listed (they call it "seeding," but it's not) by points percentage (2 for win, not the 3 that the whole world uses, and 1 for tie). In West, strength of schedule is incorporated to rank the qualifying teams. From that, a bracket is made in which 1 plays 16, the winner of which plays winner of 8 v 9, etc. For semi-finals, the winner of North plays South, and Central plays West.
How do you qualify for postseason?
Win at least as many as you lose in qualifying games. Some games are "excluded", an election that must be made at the beginning of the season. A list of excluded games is on MIAA website. Also, if at least 3/4 of a team's games are against schools in a larger Division, that team can qualify based on its record only vs teams in its Division or smaller.
How many teame ?
Due to the criteria, most teams qualify, maybe 60% or 200 statewide. Each division and section has a bracket, of which there will be 14 statewide. Each bracket will probably have 10-20 teams.
What is the format?
It's a knockout competition. Tie breaking allows "golden goals"? It takes 6 rounds, with 1 or 2 days off between matches for winners.
Does it end at the stats championship? Yes
Thanks for any info.
