Unfortunately, for many folks whose pre-HS kids are the "best in town", they don't have a great way of judging whether their player is the best of a bad lot or actually really good. So they check to see if they are an impact player or starter on their club team, and if they are and that club team can beat every other club team --- they surmise that their kid is good and they should keep spending $.

Granted, for too many it's just a way to stroke the parental ego. I'm just trying to build a somewhat rational case for the other folks, and I'm not sure that even I'm buying it.

Think there is a lot of wisdom in this post. This is where the koolaid fits in. Life in club soccer would be so much simpler if the coaches leveled with parents or at least set the bar a little more realistically.

That won't happen as long as there are $$$ involved. Clubs are businesses, and as long as parents are willing to pony up and drive Suzy all over, coaches will continue to stroke their egos.
