OP here. I am tracking 6 D1 to D1 transfers for this class. some are listed among the playing but others are in the DNP group. I also left the kid reportedly playing in Iceland out of the picture. I don't have visibility if the kids went down in Division. If you have a D1 to D1 transfer I may have missed, let me know.

It's sobering because many parents and players have very unrealistic expectations of college sports. They're used to be their team studs. Even just looking at those numbers as a high school player it brings to light what a harsh situation it is. They may not change their goals of playing in college but maybe they at least go in with a more realistic set of expectations. Having the right attitude can help smooth the bumps in the road (because there will be many).

It also reinforces the adage that you better really like the school first and foremost because they likelihood of starting and playing all four years is not great.

No, it reinforces that you had really really better like soccer because that's all they will do. Liking the school isn't all that important because your kid won't have a normal college experience either in the classroom or out of it so the fit with the soccer program is actually a bigger factor than the actual school is. Of course there's that - yes you better love soccer (job) coach (boss ) and teammates (coworkers). But the op's point that not many will play in a substantial way all 4 years is very valid. To say the school doesn't matter is false. one day the soccer will end for 99.9% of players and all there is left is school. And it may end sooner than expected. Believe it or not they are supposed to be students first, athletes second
