Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOP here. I am a coach, so I have lots of "boys", and my reason for these threads is for me to learn how to advise future kids. I have learned in the last week that a number of the 40-50 MA kids going D1 in the past three years are slotted as depth players, do not play much, and are cut or leave the team. You can see about half fit into that category. It is not for me to make the final determination of what the kid does but to offer advice. About a dozen or two kids do very well.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostIf you are a coach, then you certainly aren't a very "in tune" coach who should be advising his players on anything if you don't know this stuff up close and personal and instead have to come to an anonymous forum to research it. The fact is what the stats basically say is that 99% of the players shouldn't even bother and if you didn't already know that and have a very good reason already prepared why they should you are nothing but a mindless robot feeding the conveyor belt we call club soccer.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOP here. I researched this some more. I have noticed that 3 2014 players, including one MA player listed as Verbally committed to Northeastern are not rostered for this season. Additionally one of MA top 2012 players is suddenly not rostered with no apparent explanation. Also a top 2013 player transferred. A lot is going on there.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostNot necessarily. Unless you know what the whole situation is you have no way of knowing what is going on. The higher up the ranking food chain you go the tougher it is to contribute early simply because the rosters are all pretty well stocked with similar caliber players that are older and more physically well conditioned because they have been there longer. It is not uncommon at all to go into a top ranked program knowing you probably won't see the field the first year. That is just how successful coaches plan out their rosters. Many look at the freshman year as an apprenticeship year.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostFor the most part, players decide the who, when and where on the pitch. A coach will ALWAYS pick the players whom he feels can help the team. That could be a freshman of a fifth year senior so it is really up to the player(s) to get it done in training so the coach either has no choice or it is a difficult one.
