2014 Boys Soccer Verbal Commitments

Many of the names I have never heard of. If you play on a soccer team and you graduated from high school does that qualify for this list?

You can estimate that 3000-4000 boys soccer players graduate HS in Mass. annually, so these lists that grow to about 100 boys represent about 3%. If the college coaches are doing a reasonable job, these are the best 3%. It should certainly be acknowledged that some of the best players do not choose college, and some of the best choose to stop playing.

Yes, that's the case every year. It's not terribly different than HS, in which few freshmen can break through among the more experienced group they are now playing with.

agreed they are the top players (D1). Yet over 100 Mass HS boys head into college playing each and every year for the last 5 years....congratulations to all.

1) 99% of the above listed will make their college rosters.
2) At the D1 level, although between 15-50 from MA commit, only about 10 start 50% or more of their games as Freshmen.
3)Only a handful play for national powerhouses defined as making the NCAA tournament.
4) Even less of those actually play a lot for teams that go somewhere in the playoffs.
5) That said, a lot of the above kids become impact players on regional D3 teams. Close to 100 play some for D3's. It is unlikely and difficult to get them all listed here. I'm probably missing at least several dozen.
Caveat: With UML joining D1 and BA at NE and CS at PC, the D1 numbers look like they will bump up a bit. UML isn't really playing at a D1 level yet, but that's how they are listed.

UML definately retooling their team. I think you will see a much different team this year.

I like the program. I think they can make things work. They will be feeding a lot of new mostly local players into the system. That will increase the MA D1 numbers, which is a good thing. I would expect them to challenge a BU in a year or two.

They are in different leagues. BU moved to the Patriot
