In YOUR opinion he is a top player on his team. I'm sure the other parents would beg to differ when he is out run and getting the ball taken away. As I previously stated, I'm sure if he isn't riding the bench you have some kind of special relationship with the coach... Have a wonderful day.... Not just my opinion, doofus. He's had several different coaches over the last few years, all of whom came to the same conclusion. Coaches of other teams regularly ask if he can guest for their teams in tournaments. At least five clubs approached us last spring to inquire if he might be interested in playing for their team.

But you know better. You've never seen my son, but you're nevertheless "sure" about conclusions that are based on no information at all other than your preconceptions. Ever heard the saying about some people being always certain and often wrong? They're talking about you.

Every team has a bad game from time to time! Some teams also match up better for various reasons. Cant' explain away bad performances they just happen. Many times it's the other team that forces the bad result , but not always. *^% happens. If you looked closer at last years Natick tournament you will also see that NU beat very convincingly the team that won the division and beat Needham. Needham didn't win the U11 division if I remember correctly. Can't find results but I think I'm correct? If I am wrong first point still stands

This was the tournament where all the teams each had 2 wins one loss and the ones that went to the finals were the ones that had shut outs, which was given more points for some reason. NU had by far the best GD, but another team went to finals because they had a shut out.

Sure, being bigger would help. But the poster to whom I was replying was stating that you must be big to succeed, at least in the US. That's bogus. The other things you mention matter as well (and don't forget speed, which matters more than anything).

Additionally, the advantage associated with being bigger will become less important in a few years. At U-13, some kids are twice as big as other kids. When they're U-16s, that's no longer true.

Actually, I have the exact opposite view. In my experience the larger children have grown too fast when they are younger so their lateral movement and ball handling skill are not there. But those come later when the child "grows into" his body. The smaller child typically dominates at the lower ages because they are more nimble. As they both mature and the field gets larger, they are just muscled out.

I do agree that anyone can succeed.

Regarding, the small player that scored on the Rev's being the best -- why assume that the person who scored as the best. On our team our best player is our defender. On some teams it is their keeper or midfielders.

In any case, it is all about the training in the early years and how it allows each child to grow into their bodies. There are certain methods that allow boys to maintain their skills as they go through growth spurts. It's a matter of knowing the literature.

And thus the emphasis on U11-U12-U13 transitions. Don't worry so much about how your team does and certainly not what TS says. Worry more about your son's development during the growth spurts Better to have a coach that is not profit-driven and worried about maintaining club status.

Never said he was the best. I have no idea if he is or isn't. But according to the poster to whom I was responding, small kids can't even make the team once you get to U13, and he certainly disproves that.
