Got Soccer Rankings.??? Really???

I've often thought the Gotsoccer ranking system was a bit flawed.

Case and point : No offense to Galway Rovers - but in MAPLE they had 2 wins. They did not get a chance to compete in the State Cup Semi-finals or finals, and yet they are currently ranked higher than the State Champ at the U16 level.????

I agree look at Galway u15 they just played in state cup final 8 and they do good in tournaments but cannot get in good divisions so no points. You have to go play in a ton of tournaments to get respect and get points.

You have to take these rankings as offering some guidance, but not as an absolute statement of anything. This Galway team's ranking, if you look just a little further, is almost wholly built on performance in 1 tournament, and that a year ago. So the ranking could be looked at as actually helpful in indicating how strong or flimsy a ranking is. Without gotsoccer, it would be hard to find this out. In this case, 1) the points were earned June 2012, meaning they were earned by last year's team. Maybe the squad changed a lot from U15 to U16. Also, being a June tournament, they may have used guest players or their opposition may have been weakened by players unavailable as school gets out or going through tryouts and switching teams. Not sure we really need to shoot gotsoccer for not knowing some of these dynamics. Better that users look to see what a team's ranking is built on. Note that this Galway team is going to drop drastically a week from today. What improvements would you suggest? Should gotsoccer not use a 12-month rolling average, but use 6 months instead?

I have not checked this age group, but gotsoccer has not posted at least some of the MA State Cup results yet. Once those get posted, your results will change again,

got soccer rankings are a joke,, top draw soccer top 25 is the true top teams, very few club teams ever crack the top 25. example u14 Revs are 9th in country. gotsoccer does not include academy teams. only 1 club team from maryland is in top 25 for that u14 age group.
