Bigger = less opportunity for others looking at this from the child not the the greedy administrators prospective
I don't buy that at all. The mom and pops have the same issues, if not worse, than the big clubs and in some instances it is worse. A big club like the New England Scorpions would provide a chance to play soccer at multiple skill levels for all ages, it would also have the recourses to have access to good facilities and high level coaches. As long as parents could see where their kid actually belongs in team hierarchy this concept could work.
The mom and pop clubs days are virttually over with maple becoming the new masc, BAYS D1 has better matches.
Some of you should do a little research on what the world of soccer is outside of New England. Read this presentation by the ECNL club Albion Hurricanes from Texas:
This club has well more than 100 soccer teams. Like a lot of clubs around the nation what they try to do is encourage play at all levels of the talent spectrum, not just the elite level.
Clubs in this area need to merge to be able to compete with just the player development models never mind on field success of clubs like this. The Albion Hurricanes are far from the most unique or largest club out there.
I would love for the two clubs to merge. Now that BB is gone and not many people missing him, a merger would flip the soccer landscape on its head. The new club would be the biggest in the region with ECNL as the prize, so Stars couldn't keep touting it as the only means to get recognized. Stars would only have strong presence North of 495 and West. I hope it happens.
Says the Mom who wants ECNL. Reality is NEFC is already, too big with too many teams in each age group above U13.
The problem with poster's like you is you never seem to recognize that not everyone is interested in a hell bent for fury youth soccer experience. There are plenty of us out here who simply want our children to have a positive youth sports experience. In my mind that is a situation where I can rely on the club to be able to field a team every year, where the coach is more a teacher than a drill sergeant, and where the parents are not always trying to compete for who can do the most and spend the most. I feel that we have realistic expectations for what my daughter can achieve with soccer and don't believe that we need all of the craziness to achieve what might be possible.

Sir/Madam. Sane, rational, realistic posts are not welcome here. This site is reserved for lunatics, and helicopter parents!
Don't both clubs each already offer multiple teams at multiple age groups? I get the feeling that this merger is being suggested by a parent of a daughter who either wants access to ECNL teams or who wants to form a club that can beat the Stars teams regularly. Although the merged boys teams may be stronger, they will still not be a DAP club in the near future.
I say it makes more sense for Stars to take the scorpions team than NEFC. NEFC would not be able to keep the marketing machine going with the second path approach.
consolidation of clubs for u 13 & above good for soccer, only bad for egos.
What evidence can you submit to substantiate the above claim? It would be a significant exception to say that less choice is good for the consumer.
If the purpose of this proposed merger is to enable creation of a superior Elite team, isn't this already happening with the idea of the 'destination' teams?
If the purpose is to help the average player then I'm missing how this would help in any way. Larger clubs don't mean better coaching for the non-Elite teams, quite the opposite, you get poor coaching because only the Elite teams matter to the club.
