Amazing they can get that many letters out so quickly...

It's only for a select few really special players on the team, though. Just please make sure that you get the check in the mail soon....we only have 22 spots on each of our dozen teams at each age group. Once tryouts begin we can't guarantee you a spot....

Oh wait a minute...of course we can guarantee you a spot. We have thousands of them.

Don't forget....please send the check in soon.

MPS doesn't really have tryouts. They may have a handful of kids show up that are not already on the team. No real effort to get new players. Just keep cashing the checks.

Out of curiosity, how much is the deposit been asked?

Just shows that MPS more interested in your $$ than your player. But not really subverting recruiting rules. Many teams do the same thing, they get a verbal comittment from their top players before tryouts so they don't go anywhere else. MPS just asks for a $$ comittment. All is fair, as long as you know what it is that the club is looking for. I think MPS is doing everyone a favor, keeping these players away from tryouts and freeing up space for those players actually looking for a team.

Shows the MPS ignorance. If they only send the top player the letter, do you think they wont take them if they don't pay by May 24th. Don't be dumb. Go somewhere else!

I'm not an MPS parent but have noticed that there is always so much derision for MPS on this forum. It is actually pretty unfounded though because when you start looking at college rosters you can't help but notice that they do produce results and get players to the college ranks. Their approach is just different. It is more low key than some of the leading clubs in the area. Beside being the largest non town soccer program in the state, they are a business. Notifying players before hand that they made the team is both humane and smart business. Setting a deadline is also probably quite practical. I bet they have plenty of experience where parents have verbally accepted and then jumped at another club's offer. As they say in my business, a deal is not a deal until the check clears.

The club doesn't get players to college, the players get themselves to college.

I beleive a few actually have programs to help kids through the process. MPS, NEFC and I beleive the STARS all have actual programs to help kids who aspire to play in college.

Having been an MPS parent through the recruitment process I can safely say this is not entirely true. Though you can always want for more, they did do quite a bit. I can't tell you how many little friendlies they organized so local college coaches could come watch players. The also used to put on a nice little showcase event during the April vacation that was very well attended by local college coaches.

Sounds like good club to play for(loyalty) not like stars where there are differnt girls at practice each night to replace your kid.

Disagree. Had the same experience but different interpretation of the results. Had a few local coaches show up. Also, the recruiting process was very much "on your own".

In addition the list posted on the MPS site on college commitments had many misleading "commitments" Many of these kids listed where they were going to college, NOT where they were playing in college. Big difference.

The local college showcase events have expanded quite a bit from 5-8 years ago. They now have several a year that they sign up multiple teams into the showcase instead of promoting and relegating players to better teams as they develop.

Like I wrote, you can always want for more, but in our case our coach did a fair amount of work for my player. He made phone calls and tried to direct us to an appropriate match. Truthfully I don't think there was much more that he could have done. The rest is really a personal quest.

I am not naïve enough to think that every player in the club gets the same attention. I do know that there were lots of players we were associated over the years with whose parents had completely delusional expectations that no coach could meet. I'm sure you can get a bunch of criticisms from that group but I would suggest that they don't represent the main stream college bound player.

My kid is playing in college. If you are inferring that I am delusional, I can assure you that is not the case. In my college discussions with the MPS staff, it became clear to me that other than a 10,000 foot view of the process (which I knew better than they did) there was very little done. Did not expect much more but to see the college recruiting claims on the website, is at best misleading. Glad you were happier with your experience.

I would think that you would want to see your new recruits play at the tryout with your retained players to see how they would / would not fit in. At least that is what I have witnessed at most tryouts for top teams.
