Spoken like someone with advantages. The kid who earned the right after getting through the door only had to compete against the subset of other kids who got through the door with their advantage. It’s how the world works and isn’t likely to change but it should still be recognized for what it is.

When will ECNL take over GA?

It's a want vs need argument. Parents want as many ECNL teams in the area so their kid has a better shot of making "the top team". but just like you said, they exist because that is what you want and are willing to pay for as parents. It's not what the players need, and the more teams in ECNL or GA dilutes each team and makes it more difficult to compete at a national level.

ECNL and GA will merge? Or ECNL will just buy out GA? Or ECNL slowly adding all GA clubs and eventually create more tiers? Perhaps with the two merged finally we will have all of the players competing at one top level.
College coaches must be hoping this happens soon.
Was it really a choice? I still am not sure. I had heard that it was not a real choice. Meaning not forced by strongly urged by ECNL.

I think it was actually on this very forum that I learned that admission, not a scholarship, was the long-range goal. The scholarship would be a bonus, sure. But the Harvard Crimson, in the wake of Operation Varsity Blues, did some research into how much easier it is to get in if you're on the coaches' radars, and it was staggering.
Not that it's new. I knew a kid who was nowhere near the top of his class in my high school who got into Princeton because he MIGHT make the soccer team. (He didn't.)
So parents aren't quite as stupid about this as we might all think. My advice, though, would be to take up rowing. Much surer bet. Or even better, equestrian -- because in the name of Title IX, @2Dropsxxx, colleges have to give scholarships to people rich enough to get horses for their kids. Go figure.

ECNL/GA and soccer clubs are businesses. They wouldn't exist if there weren't demand and people willing to pay for them. It's strange that you would want to limit them. Do you also want to limit how many restaurants or cars exist because there are too many bad ones? I guarantee if people didn't want more soccer teams and leagues they would stop existing. They exist because that's what we want.

GA and DPL are basically mirrors of ECNL and ECRL. However there are some specific distinctions. GA and DPL are entirely seperate leagues unlike ECNL and ECRL which are usually both the same clubs just A and B teams. The advantage of having GA and DPL completely seperate is that non GA clubs can compete and do well in DPL (Liverpool, Force).
Also if a non GA club does really well in DPL sometimes clubs and teams will get invited to play at GA events (showcases).
One other thing that's interesting that DPL does is that the first day of GA Champions Cup (aka GA finals). DPL teams play their best two teams in the DPL finals. This ups the interest in the top two DPL teams + kicks GA finals off with a bang. Giving the top players from both leagues a spotlight.

My guess is this could be a similar outcome for the girls youngers this weekend.
It would be wonderful to see the top GA teams (Colorado Rush, Houston Dash, Michigan Nationals and the like) playing the top ECNL teams more often, but the different platforms like to keep them separate, it seems.
To be sure, you'd have to see whether the top GA teams were signed up for Surf Cup - if you've got the time to check. But until GA strengthens its ranks in the Southwest, there's not much argument ECNL has the stronger teams at the top of the standings for sure.
Once you get to the middle and bottom of the ECNL teams, it's less clear, though MANY people have STRONG opinions on it!

That poster is angry these days and will win by any means necessary. At least one girl at one age was helping their black team. That’s a two level drop from ECNL at CF. GA Soccer is a joke and this was confirmed last year when KSA won 2-3 state cups and then forfeited all matches at regionals due to ineligible players. Think anyone cares? No, they won the state “by any means necessary.” This is why we have neo-maple now. Thanks GA Soccer. Incompetent! Those with brains and/or experience who know soccer is just one part of the educational process a child will experience in life and that more than anything, the motivation of the player to play competitive soccer should come from the player, not the parents, peers, or coach. Labels and money change perceptions but are not as strongly correlated with happiness and long-term prosperity as the vast majority of suburban soccer patrons think. Getting into an "academic" tier school the student is not prepared for sounds like you've gamed the system until she doesn't get a 3.0 and can't go to ANY grad school. OR, doesn't make the travel squad for the first time in her life and sits in her dorm room with depression because she doesn't want to leave to explain why she's not with the team. Examples I've seen first hand. Keep drinking the 'elite' kool-aid but be careful what you wish for.....

It sounds like everyone is talking about very different things here.
- You have a team short on players and you need to add some to fill out your roster or they whole team loses out. If that happens to be an ECNL kid or two, I don't see an issue with it. Even if one poster seemed to think adding any player is unethical.
- If your team has 4 or 5 subs, and then goes and adds some ECNL kids most people have a low opinion about this, which I mostly agree with. Especially when kids on the actual team don't play.
- Lastly (and I have nothing to back this up) but it seems like the same group of people/clubs/Georgia Soccer that say ECNL is on par with RPL, get upset that the ECNL clubs pull kids "down" to play state cup. While I obviously do not want my kids team to get blown out by an ECNL team, I do want them playing against top teams and players, isn't that what state cup is suppose to be. I am not going to complain about one or two age legal players because that play at the big club because I think they are to good. Maybe I am way off base, but I don't think you can have it both ways.
