Well if you care about soccer first and foremost then it is a no brainer. Porters will be good next year and Choate will be awful. Pretty easy call.

Both are great schools and athletic programs , just a few loose screws here, good luck to the remaining 2 teams in the finals

          There’s always Cheshire Academy.

With all the rationalizing about Choate’s play yesterday which I completely understand and yes they played better soccer and came up short, the winning corner was amazing. Kudos to the Porters girls, yes a team comprised of a few girls who will play in college and many others who did what was needed to win. That’s what is impressive about it, Choate is a recruiting factory and Porters has mostly players from a small concerted area and continues to get deep in the playoffs.

They did that a few years ago for the boys so I’m not sure there is a reason. They had multiple games going at the same time ie Class B and Class D so maybe that helps with scheduling.

I don’t think you can judge anything from this board as there tends to be a few crazy parents. They really seem to be coming out lately. I don’t remember past threads being so heated. Watch the teams play (in person if possible). Figure out if the team and SCHOOL are a good match for your daughter.

It’s a thread. All for fun. Anonymous. Could be a kid, parent, agitator l, coach. But it’s for fun. Why does it even need to be said.

I see what you’re saying, but Porter’s places girls at great schools as well. In the last few years alone there have been close to 20 girls who’ve either played or are currently playing college soccer. Yes, Porter’s does come from a concentrated area, but they still do well in terms of college recruiting.

Agree. But that is the bonus. Club much more impactful. All this nonsense about where choate soccer players play in college. A talented player from both schools will have same opportunities.

IMHO, A top player going to fc stars vs fsa will have more opportunities regardless of prep school choice.

I think the poster was insinuating that Choate wildly underpunches its weight given the brand name and ability to recruit whereas Porters wildly outperforms given the head coach is recruiting from a tighter area and/or is not really casting that wide of a net. I have no dog in the fight as my daughter goes to another boarding school that is a notch below both programs performance wise but I would say Porters runs a much better program based on this fact alone. Because I am not biased I can also say that both styles are similar with kickball over the top to one forward and the styles are ugly from a soccer purist perspective so anyone saying Choate plays some possession style is sorely mistaken and does not know the game. Choate dumps the ball up the field or has wingers/midfielders dribble cluelessly into the corners looking to make a play of some sort. Porters also largely plays with a high forward and tries to dump the ball but they play much more as a team and that forward looks to link up with oncoming players. Choate has no actual style and it’s hero ball by a few players. In my opinion that is why they have not been able to beat Porters the past two years in those big games.

Well said. Some generalizations about the player quality but on a statistical average it makes more sense that Choate can attract from a wider net. That said, porters has had among the best talent in the CT prep school circuit.

Well also, the name alone gives the edge to Choate. Besides prep soccer I wouldn’t have know that much about Porter’s. By their team being an extremely successful all girls school with roughly 300 girls who attend, soccer has helped tremendously to put them on the map. From 2018 to now they have jumped up from being a typical class C school to now being in the class. A final. Well done ladies. No shade at all towards Choate, they are just one of the more well known schools in the country other not just in sports, whereas Porter’s had to fight to where they are today.

Class A Chamos WA with a 1-0 win over Miss Porters. Thought WA was a bit more of a grittier team. Good game by both teams.
