Pretty sure it’s the same dude that makes statements, replies with agreements to his own statements, has a SOCAL account with a few different names and just tossed that idea out there

But there's enough to appeal to BY and RAE people
To address BY the groupings are calender based but it happens to address SY time frames.
It addresses RAE because younger players in the age group can play down.
In showcases naturally Jan 1 to July 1 birthdays will want to play up.
Recruiters end up only watching teams that are graduating a certain grade or graduating year.

Why would they go with an 8/1 cut off (approx 7 states follow this) as opposed to a 9/1 or 9/15 cut off which encompasses approximately 29 states depending on the date you use? The cut off dates for school registration have changed over the years. It doesn’t make sense to do something now just because it was done that way before….

Jan 1 to July 1 birthdays could play down for wins but by the time the get to HS they'll want to play up to get noticed by recruiters at showcases.

But league A only plays league A teams and vice versa.

Just run 2 concurrent leagues.
League A will be Jan 1st to July 1st
League B will be July 1st to Dec 31st
If players want to play with kids in their grade in school either they'll be forced to (July 1st to Dec 31st) or they'll have the option to play up with their grade (Jan 1st to July 1st)
This solves RAE, lets kids play with their grade in school, and creates more teams for kids to play on. Which means more $$$ for clubs.

This is BY but instead of being Jan 1st to Jan 1st it's July 1st to July 1st
Which basically gives you a much simpler version of SY.
Letting the Jan 1st to July 1st play down is just for RAE. The assumption is players would would to play with kids their age in achool at showcases.
Showcase games would be players a

I am all for participation trophies and not keeping score in ECNL. I’m sorry I’m not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I’m not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best. Maybe August babies get 2 trophies automatically? For soccer, I would do trophies at all at younger ages, especially for achievement of skills tests.Trophies for all performers, and badges for levels of achievement (think Karate belts) – 10 juggles, 50 juggles, club’s top juggler gets a trophy. Most touches on 60 seconds. Dribbling the cones competitions. Shot placements, or even the crossbar challenge. Hold a soccer tennis tournament: The top three teams get 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

This thread is ridiculous. The change needs to happen because it's time to right the wrong. Everyone will survive. Sure maybe a few wrongs will get introduced but in the grand scheme of things, this change will help more than it will hurt. There will never be a perfect solution like anything in life. I'm thankful to the soccer overlords for putting selfishness aside and coming together for the greater good.
And I say this as a current q1 player who struggles physically and I know that because of the change her status is tenuous.
Your first world problems are absolutely insane.
