Town level doesn't have to follow this, and some wouldn't even need to change since in Massachusetts, BAYS, etc., are still grade-based.

The real answer is if USSF says so then it will have an effect across age groups just because.
No reason NECSL teams would need to change. Those players are fine w birth year. If they choose to try out for more elite leagues they will adapt to the Sept 1 cut off. We as humans are capable to adapt.

This whole conversation is because people haven’t adapted in the past 15 years. The change will probably never occur because that would force us to adapt again.

Most likely it's going to happen. They wouldn't be mentioning it at EVERY podcast albeit merely touching on the topic.. Though they did devote a lot of time to rae with the doctor etc in order to brace listeners for the change back to grade year with some tweaks.
Far too many people want the change than don't.
Colleges want the change and college recruitment drives club rankings
The number of kids playing pro right after high school is not high enough to warrant NOT switching back.

Tldr.. The change is happening next year. Great news for kids born in second half of year esp if they are on second teams.. And before you jump to conclusions, my player is born in the first half. I support the change because it's the right thing to do. That being said, the trapped players on our team are amazing and I'm hoping they will get to stay.

My kid loves her 2010 national team. She is a trapped player. We have talked about this likely change as a family and even though she will miss playing with her team she knows from last year especially changes happen every year especially at the higher levels. She never expects to have the same team year to year as new talent will come in and the bottom will drop. Teach your player to be resilient as we have out trapped 8th grader. She is going to go a season without club this fall while all her classmates in 8th grade born in Jan on get to play w th wit club team and the rest of her club team plays high school. She’s bummed but will boost the agility and speed training and play town. That’s part of the resilience. If they fix th entrapped player issue for next years 2011s I’m happy for them. It will mean a younger team for our daughter after years of playing up but she will be resilient and welcome the change because she loves the sport and is focused on her game.

Mommy or daddy, ecnl doesn’t make the rule and ultimately it’s not a huge deal. USSF makes the rules, let me know when you get that breaking news update.

You are correct. ECNL does not make the rules. They did go along with the whole birth year switch and all the DA crap which failed miserably. USSF proved they did not have their finger on the pulse of girls soccer in US. With ECNL the highest level of play in most parts of the US, and the women’s team in need of new life, It is quite possible that USSF just might be willing to sit at the table for a heart to heart discussion.

                  Panic!!! Change!!! No Change!!! Panic!!!
Yes, my trapped player survived and is in college, glad I didn't jump out of the helicopter.

USSF will be at the table but they are responsible for the current mess so, they will be quiet and let ECNL take lead.

Yes of course usually the folks in power cede to those that aren’t. Also, who says ecnl really cares all that much about this. It was on a stupid podcast. Next podcast will be about something else. There’s no change coming at all. 70 pages of trash

Says the daddy on the bottom of an ECNL 2011 roster worried about the 2010 trapped national players dropping down taking spots. It will be ok. What you need to think about is your kid, whether or not they are on the wrong team. If they are on the bench player 15-20 they are on a team that is too high level. They are going to be dropped anyway either by incoming talent from other clubs or during the age cut off switch. Get your kid on a team she won’t be cut.

I have a hard time think Bracken and Labers would be shooting from the hip on a podcast that all of their paying customers listen to. Obviously they spent a lot of time thinking about the segments of multiple podcasts developing the change and explaining it in a way a third grader could comprehend.

lots of fearful parents out there that want no part in extra competition.
The issues are real for trapped players.

Why does everyone think it’s ok to hand one group a challenge in RAE AND give that same group 3 big obstacles to overcome in their careers? IT MAKES ZERO SENSE.

lol so dumb. Doesn’t affect my kid. I worry about a lot of things my kid getting cut from her ECNL team is not one of them. But how come you’re so hopeful for this? Because your a current b teamer and you think this will finally get her on the ecnl team. The most venomous folks at clubs are b team parents pushing to make the ecnl team. Followed closely by bench player parents trying to make the starting 11. So obvious. But still this change never gonna happen!

Parents of trapped players should all want this.
